The Kaleta Apartments Lounge, Iza Loze 4, Split, Croatia,
Is elegantly decorated with graceful antiques, including a 2,000-year-old Roman amphora, once used to transport spices from Africa.
History:
Amphora dated to around 4800 BC have been found in Banpo, a Neolithic site of the Yang Shao Culture in China. In the West, Amphorae first appeared on the Syrian coast around 3500 BCE and spread around the ancient world, being used by the ancient Greeks and Romans as the principal means for transporting and storing grapes, olive oil, wine, oil, olives, grain, fish, and other commodities. They were produced on an industrial scale from Greek times and used around the Mediterranean until about the 7th century. Wooden and skin containers seem to have supplanted amphorae thereafter.

“Wonderful Stay!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 30, 2013
Stayed for 3 nights in September. Convenient location in the old town. The detailed directions to the meeting place was very useful, had no problem in finding the place. The apartment is beautifully decorated, well equiped with a kitchenette. The room is very clean. There is a supermarket and many bakery shops nearby. Extremely value for money, very reasonably priced compared to the hotels in the old town area. Highly recommended.
Stayed September 2013, traveled with family

A beautiful apartment within the palace walls of Old Town Split. Beautifully decorated with antiques and local art. Room and bathroom exquisitely clean and comfortable... we hated to leave! Kaleta Apartments are highly recommended while staying in Split!

“Great location, enjoy our stay”
4 of 5 starsReviewed September 20, 2013We stay here for one night in August, it is very well located within the Palace. There are bars and restaurants right in-front on the apartments. The windows were doubled glazed, we didn't find it noisy at all. We stayed in apartment No.2, it was very clean and came with a kitchen too. My daughter left her toy behind and they were very kind to send it back to us in the UK. We will definitely be staying her again next time we're in Split.

“Excellent location, beautiful little apartment”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 18, 2013
We loved staying here for three nights. Right in the middle of all the action yet room can be made dark and quiet for sleeping. Excellent amenities -- rather surprising low price. Clean, charming, and short walk to grocery store (small kitchenette in apartment). TV and computer in room. Would highly recommend staying here. Shannon & Barry, Kansas City, USA
