The management of Butchers Bar located on Middleton St. Georgetown would like to take the opportunity to correct the inaccurate and sensationlist article carried on the 24th June on the page of 'INews Guyana'. The article is an account of a shooting incident that occurred on the night of the 23rd June in the vicinity of the bar.

Firstly, Butchers Bar was not opened at the time of the shooting, which occurred at approximately 11:00pm, over an hour after the bar had been closed for the day. It is unclear how INews came to the conclusion that the bar was open. Therefore, there could not have been any exchange of gunfire between patrons of the bar and the shooter, since a closed bar will not have any patrons.

The proprietor of the bar was out with her son and therefore not at the location at the time of the incident, and the shooting occurred between persons who were liming on the road in the vicinity of the bar and the shooters. Again, emphasis must be placed on the fact that Butchers was already closed for the night.

Butchers management releases this statement to correct the irresponsible and inaccurate speculations passed off to the public as news by INews, and would like to assure its customers and friends that the bar was in no way affected or targeted. The shooting happened in its vicinity, that's it. It is hoped that INews will correct its article and retract all false speculations it contains, as its irresponsible reporting has resulted in unnecessary aspersions being cast at the bar's reputation.

The proprietor of Butchers also thanks all of her relatives, friends and customers who have been calling and messaging to show support, and would like to reassure everyone that all is well and business will be open as usual.
