New data presented by IATA in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday confirms Guyana now supplies nearly 66% of all carbon credits approved for use by international airlines under the UN-backed CORSIA programme.

With 24.96 million CORSIA-eligible credits issued through its ART TREES programme, Guyana has become the world’s largest supplier of aviation-approved carbon offsets, far ahead of any other country.

IATA sustainability chief Marie Owens Thomsen praised Guyana’s leadership, saying its approach to carbon market governance and environmental stewardship is one that “a lot of other countries can learn from.”

The PPP/C Government continues to advance opportunities for local businesses with the Guyana Development Bank Bill 2026 now before the National Assembly.

Once established, the Development Bank will expand access to affordable financing for small and medium-sized enterprises, helping to empower entrepreneurs, stimulate investment, and strengthen Guyana’s growing economy.
