The installation of bucket seats at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall is set to get underway within a matter of weeks, according to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr.
The ultimate goal is to have the new seating fully operational in time for the upcoming Caribbean Basketball Confederation Men’s Championship, which tips off from July 8-12.

A project bringing the Voices of Enslaved People in British Guiana closer to Guyanese communities opened in Georgetown on Monday.
Participants gathered for the first Voices in Slavery’s Archive workshop, part of a three-year project focused on making slavery-era testimonies more accessible, while ensuring the records are handled with dignity, care and cultural responsibility.
Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of Culture, attended the opening ceremony and gave remarks. Opening statements were also delivered by Professor Diana Paton of the University of Edinburgh, and Nadia Gamel-Carter, Archivist at the Walter Rodney National Archives of Guyana.
The project is digitising and mapping the Reports of the Protectors of Slaves alongside Slave Registers, which recorded the enslaved population in British colonies between 1813 and 1834.
Through these records, the project aims to show where complaints were made, what issues were raised, and how enslaved people used the legal system to resist exploitation. It will also support descendant communities in exploring family and community histories through a free online resource.
The Georgetown session is the first of three workshops. The remaining sessions will be held in Berbice on June 10 and Essequibo on June 11. A group presentation will also take place at Moray House Trust from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on June 9, 2026.
Participants are invited to share local knowledge and help shape how these sensitive records are interpreted and shared.
