The U.S. Embassy in Guyana is leading a program titled American Music Abroad: QVLN & OVEUS from April 15 to 21, 2015.

American Music Abroad: QVLN & OVEUS is a program that will offer the people of Guyana insight into these unique components of America’s musical and cultural diversity through live performances, lectures, workshops, and other activities. The group will interface directly with local cultural institutions, musicians, poets and students through educational presentation and performance that is interactive and fun.

We will be hosting three workshops on April 17, 2015 as follows:

• 09:00AM: WORKSHOP – Focused Sessions with Emerging Writers, Theatre/Drama Students: An Educational Presentation and Performance targeted to emerging writers and those specifically interested in poetry, writing, theatre, and self-expression. (Target audience: Janus Cultural Initiative participants, Center Stage participants, National School of Theatre Arts and Drama Students).
• 11:00AM: WORKSHOP – English/Communication Majors - University of Guyana and CPCE Students: An Educational Presentation and Performance targeted to English/Communication Majors from the University of Guyana and teachers in training from the Cyril Potter College of Education. Participants are in their late teens and early twenties and have some interest and experience in writing. The AMA group can play a light/acoustic set, talk about their experience/history and the American music scene, and do interactive sessions on songwriting and expression.
• 3:00PM: WORKSHOP – Focused Session with Guyanese Professionals: A Presentation and Performance targeted to a small group of Guyanese professionals and semi-professionals who are interested in the music industry and have some experience in music and writing. The AMA group can play a set, talk about their experience/history and the American music scene, and do interactive sessions on songwriting, tune, pitch, and a career in music.

The proposed venue is the National School of Music, Brickdam, Georgetown.
