The Craft Production & Design Division kicked off it's Basic Industrial Safety Training (BIST) with 20 trainees between ages fifteen years old. The main objective of the course is to prepare students for industry. The course commenced on the 8th September and concluded on the 12th September 2025. The one week program focused on Commitment to Safety, Guyana OSH Act, and Safety Management Fundamentals, Understanding Competency, Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), Introduction to Hazard Identification, Introduction to risk Management, Life saving Rules and Action Work Communication & Authorization .

The knowledge gain from this training will be used in their daily practices and procedures as students acquire skills and interact with machines and equipment to foster and build a new safety culture. The institution train students in Garment Making , Leather craft and Fibre and Decorative Craft. These students will further their studies at other Technical Vocational Institutions or may enter the world of work. It must be noted that the institution also catered for students with hearing impediment where an Interpreter Ms. Tracey Cholmondeley provided this service . Which give students with disabilities the opportunity to learn about the importance of health and safety, despite their challenges.

Training was done by Mrs. Simone Roberts Chief Craft Production Officer and Ms. Abiola Baker Chief Environmental Health Officer who are both qualified holders of the Nebosh General International Certificate in Health and Safety and Learning Corp International Train The trainer Certification.

BIST will also be rolled out by all the Technical Vocational Institutions across the country in Collaboration with Learning Corp International, Ministry of Education, CTVET and TVET Guyana as part of the Greater Guyana Initiative, Step Change in safety.
