Only On Guam

is a salute to all things that make Guam, Guam. The late Joe Murphy, who coined the phrase, said it best back in 2007. We introduced our publication to him, he shared his story with us, and a week later we showed up in his daily newspaper column. In the simplest of terms, he defined Only On Guam.

“The whole concept of O.O.G. goes back to 1965 when I first began writing a column for Guam. It struck me then, and still does a little, that Guam is an unusual place in the world. It is the tropics, and it is an island. It is, at once, sophisticated and behind the times. It is part of the United States, and yet half of the U.S. wouldn’t know where Guam is, or how to spell it.”

We have come a long way from 1965. More roads. More traffic lights. Taller buildings. New franchises. Bigger population. But what really matters is that we are still Guam. We are still that tiny island in the Pacific with a unique culture and language. We’ve just opened it up for the rest of the world to see…to learn where it’s at and how to spell it. O.O.G…and proud to be.
