A New Journey Begins in Portugal

Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey for the e-Business and UX Lab in Portugal.

The main goal of this visit is to strengthen our network within the Portuguese entrepreneurship ecosystem. Portugal, with a population comparable to Greece and a similar development structure, stands out for its dynamic landscape of startups and spin-offs—offering valuable insights and opportunities for collaboration.

During this visit, Professor Spiros Sirmakessis, head of the Lab, aims to engage with leading polytechnic institutions and innovation hubs. The focus is on exchanging knowledge and best practices, particularly in fostering entrepreneurial culture within universities.

Through this initiative, we seek to bring back valuable experience and inspiration to further enhance innovation, entrepreneurship, and academic impact within our own ecosystem.

Stay tuned as this journey unfolds!

We are pleased to share our participation in PCI 2026 (Athens), where the e-Business & User Experience Lab of the University of Peloponnese presented:
"From Competence Mapping to ESCO-Aligned Job Profiles for Generative AI and Large Language Models"

The work was presented by Irene Ioannidou, co-authored by Spiros Sirmakessis and Marios Katsis.

The rapid adoption of Generative AI and Large Language Models is transforming multiple sectors, yet structured skill frameworks remain limited.

Our contribution:
✔ A four-domain competence framework (foundational, technical, application, ethical)
✔ ESCO-aligned job profiles for emerging roles
✔ Focus on roles such as Prompt Engineer and Generative AI Engineer
✔ Validation through expert interviews across academia and industry

This work, developed within the GenAISA (Generative AI Skills Academy), supports alignment between education and labour market needs across Europe.

We look forward to extending this research through broader validation and sector-specific adaptations.

Rethinking Tourism through Regeneration –

We are excited to share an update on the ongoing progress of the ReGenera4Med project, part of the Interreg Euro-MED programme, which promotes a new approach to tourism in the Mediterranean: regenerative tourism.

What is ReGenera4Med about?
The project goes beyond sustainability by supporting tourism models that actively restore and enhance local ecosystems, communities, and cultural heritage. It brings together regions and stakeholders to co-create innovative solutions for more resilient and balanced tourism development.

Progress so far
Over the past months, the partnership has been actively working on:
✔️ Mapping tourism ecosystems and identifying key regional challenges and opportunities
✔️ Engaging stakeholders across the quadruple helix (public authorities, academia, businesses, and civil society)
✔️ Building the foundations for collaborative, regenerative tourism frameworks
✔️ Launching knowledge exchange activities among partner regions

Collaboration at the core
ReGenera4Med fosters strong transnational cooperation, enabling regions to share experiences, align strategies, and jointly explore new tourism models that generate positive environmental and social impact.

What’s next?
The next phase will focus on:
➡️ Designing and implementing pilot actions in participating regions
➡️ Testing regenerative tourism practices on the ground
➡️ Developing tools and policy recommendations to support long-term regional transformation

We are proud to contribute to shaping a future where tourism not only sustains—but regenerates destinations across the Mediterranean.

New publication in the area of VR available at IOCHI 2026 Conference.
Immersive virtual reality (VR) provides a powerful platform for studying cognitive regulation in complex, realistic task environments. In vocational training contexts, individuals must manage instructional support, regulate cognitive effort, and progressively translate guided actions into independent performance—core processes underlying applied human intelligence. In the present study, cognitive regulation is understood as the ability to manage cognitive effort, monitor performance, and adapt behavior as instructional support is reduced. Despite growing interest in VR-based learning, less is known about how learners adapt when instructional scaffolding is reduced, particularly in tasks that require both procedural knowledge and embodied interaction.
The present study investigates behavioral indicators of cognitive
regulation in a VR-based coffee preparation task using hand-tracking interaction. By comparing performance across a fully guided trial and a subsequent reduced-guidance trial, we examine how learners adjust their strategies, efficiency, and perceived workload. Specifically, the study aims to identify how prior VR experience and real-world task expertise influence adaptive performance, with a focus on temporal task metrics, interaction errors, and subjective workload. This work highlights the potential of VR as a tool for capturing fine-grained behavioral markers of learning, adaptation, and applied intelligence in ecologically valid settings.
