The population currently stands at around 1800 people of various nationalities. Here to Volunteer!? Want to donate? THANK YOU!
Project Elea consists of a group of volunteers from around the world, who have come together to help improve the living conditions and time usage of the refugees and migrants who are being hosted at the ELEONAS Camp in Athens, Greece. Approved by the Greek Ministry of Migration, the basic principle behind Project Elea is to actively encourage the residents to engage; whether that is through educa
tion, sports or creative outlets. Every person has something positive to add to Greek/European Society, and through our strong relationships with the residents of the camp we are able to provide the tools necessary for their empowerment and for their future lives outside of a camp environment. Eleonas is an open government-run centre, meaning that the refugees residing there are free to enter and exit as they wish but access is restricted to outsiders. Their basic needs in terms of security, housing, food and medical attention are provided for by the Greek authorities and some of the large NGOs, but otherwise there are needs that our team will attempt to cover, particularly in the following areas:
- infrastructure improvements
- clothing distribution
- creative engagement
- sports
- activities for children
- cultural activities
- skill development
By all indications, the refugees who are currently in Greece will be staying in the country for the medium-long term and taking this into consideration, our project is one without a defined timeline, we will be around as long as we are needed! The driving force behind Project Elea’s successes so far is our amazing team of volunteers who work hard each day to help empower the residents of Eleonas to stand on their own feet. Volunteering with Project Elea provides a unique insight into the refugee crisis, a huge sense of satisfaction and the opportunity to develop a range of personal and professional skills. You will be joining a dynamic team of volunteers from all around the world who have come together to use their skills and experience to work towards a common humanitarian objective. We are looking for volunteers (18+ years) who will join our team for 3 weeks or longer. Everyone who wants to help in the goal of significantly improving the living conditions of the people housed at Eleonas Camp is welcome, but we are especially interested in volunteers with experience in the following positions:
- TEFL teacher – Minimum 6 week volunteering placement. Teaching groups of adults ranging from beginner level to advanced.

Project Elea could not exist without your help. As the project (and its impact) grows so do the costs. All money donated will benefit the residents of Eleonas, either directly by funding supplies such as paint, soil and other materials, or by covering the basic administrative costs that enable us to continue. To help please click the donate button at the top of the page which will take you to our website. If you would like to donate supplies please send us an email for instructions on how to have them delivered straight to Eleonas!
