Reflections from our latest CIFEJ webinar 🎬🌍
On Thursday, 26 March 2026, CIFEJ hosted the 2nd session of its Educational Webinar Series, “The Teacher-Leader in Film Education”, led by Dragan Milinkovic Fimon.
✨ Key takeaways:

• 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳𝘀 — questioning assumptions helps students (and educators) develop critical thinking and deeper understanding
• 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 — meaningful change requires shifts in mindset, redefining how we teach and how students experience learning
• 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 — fostering creativity strengthens students’ voice, confidence, and sense of agency
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 & 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 — integrating cinema into education opens space for imagination, reflection, and emotional engagement
• 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 — learning how to interpret and analyse films is essential in today’s media-rich environment
• 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 — the introduction of media consultants and public screenings can significantly enhance film education and create richer learning experiences.
Rethinking education means rethinking how we learn, create, and connect.

By the late 1960s, CIFEJ had a growing global network — from Norway to India, from Czechoslovakia to Australia. 🌎
Each National Centre brought its own passion for children’s cinema: film screenings, education programs, even the famous Tenth Muse Contest for young filmmakers. 🎞️
A true international movement united by one goal — quality cinema for children.

🌍 International Women’s Day — 8 March 2026
Theme: Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls
Around the world, women and girls continue to face barriers that limit their rights, opportunities, and access to justice. In many countries, legal systems still fail to guarantee equality in areas such as work, safety, property, mobility, and participation in public life.
International Women’s Day 2026 calls for action to dismantle discriminatory laws, challenge harmful social norms, and ensure that every woman and girl can fully exercise and enjoy her rights.
Achieving equality requires listening to girls, supporting their ambitions, and creating societies where their voices and leadership are valued.
Here is one of many film suggestions on this special day.
🎬 Whale Rider (2002) 🇳🇿
Directed by Niki Caro, this inspiring story follows a young Māori girl who challenges tradition and proves that leadership, courage, and determination know no gender.

🌍 World Day of Social Justice — 20 February 2026
Theme: Social Protection and Decent Work for All
Social justice is built through strong social protection systems, decent work, and inclusive public services.
Yet across the world, millions of children and families continue to face poverty, exclusion, and the absence of basic safety nets.
Decent work, labor rights, and access to social protection are not privileges — they are foundations of dignity.
When these systems fail, children are often the first to suffer the consequences.
Building fairer and more resilient societies means ensuring that no child is left behind — especially in times of economic hardship, conflict, climate crisis, and rising inequality.
Here is one of many film suggestions on this special day.
🎬 Capernaum (2018)
Directed by Nadine Labaki, this powerful film follows a young boy navigating poverty, child labor, and systemic neglect — a stark reminder that social protection is not optional, but essential to every child’s dignity and future.
