Village Squares Made for Long Summer Dinners
Here’s a Greek travel tip that rarely makes it into guidebooks:

If you find a village square with a giant plane tree in the middle, cancel your evening plans.

You’re not leaving anytime soon.

A few favourites:

Archanes, Crete

Archanes, Crete - beautiful wine village just outside Heraklion, where locals gather in the main square for long dinners, cold wine and even longer conversations.

Afitos, Halkidiki

stone houses, sea views and tavernas where sunset somehow turns into midnight.

Apeiranthos, Naxos

marble-paved alleys lead to a square where life moves at exactly the right speed.

Dimitsana, Arcadia

mountain air, traditional stone houses and the kind of village square that makes you order “just one more” glass of wine.

Vizitsa, Pelion – shaded by ancient plane trees and surrounded by elegant stone mansions, it’s the kind of place where nobody seems to be in a hurry.

A small piece of Greek wisdom:

Choose the table on the square, not the one with the best view.

The view stays the same.

The square comes alive.

And that’s where the real evening begins.

Greek Hotels with Terraces Worth Missing Breakfast For
A few places in Greece make you want to cancel your plans, order another coffee, and stay exactly where you are.

Phāea Blue, Crete – overlooking the island of Spinalonga and the deep blue waters of Mirabello Bay, these terraces are made for long, slow mornings. Fresh Greek coffee, the sound of fishing boats in the distance, and a view that has barely changed for centuries.

Canaves Oia Suites, Santorini – perched above the famous caldera, with whitewashed houses cascading down the cliffs below. From sunrise to the last light of the evening, there is always something to watch: sailing yachts, cruise ships, or the changing colours of the volcanic landscape.

Eagles Villas, Halkidiki – spacious private terraces surrounded by pine-covered hills and endless sea views. The kind of place where a quick break before dinner easily turns into two hours of doing absolutely nothing.

Kalesma Mykonos – designed to feel like a private Cycladic home, with generous terraces overlooking Ornos Bay. Early mornings are wonderfully quiet, while evenings bring some of the most beautiful sunsets on the island.

Sometimes the best part of a Greek summer is not the beach, the yacht or the sightseeing.

It’s finding a terrace you never want to leave. Which one is yours?

Where Mykonos Becomes Private

True luxury begins with privacy.
At Nammos Private Villas, you don’t adjust to Mykonos — it moves to your rhythm.
Spacious villas with four to nine bedrooms offer complete freedom: your own space, your own pace, your own way of living the island.
No shared areas. No interruptions. No compromises.
Only refined comfort, supported by discreet, hotel‑level service.
Mornings start with breakfast served in your villa.
Your place at Nammos Beach is ready when you are.
A dedicated butler takes care of every detail — from private yachts and helicopter transfers to dining access and spa moments — quietly and seamlessly.
This is why we recommend villas.
Because in Mykonos, privacy is the ultimate indulgence — and Nammos delivers it flawlessly.

If you are looking for one of the most rewarding road trips in Greece, a drive to Monemvasia is an experience we at Synodos wholeheartedly recommend. A few hours from Athens, the landscape starts to change. Olive groves, empty roads, small villages, and then suddenly — Monemvasia. A medieval fortress carved into a rock, rising straight out of the sea.
Its name means “single entrance.” Founded in the 6th century, hidden from invaders, it became one of the most important Byzantine strongholds in Greece. Walking through it today feels untouched — stone houses, narrow alleys, no cars, only the sound of the sea.
What to See:
The Lower Town: Wander through stone alleys, archways, and restored mansions. Every corner tells a story.
Church of Elkomenos Christos: Dating back to the 13th century, this is one of the town’s spiritual and architectural highlights.
The Upper Town: A rewarding climb that offers panoramic views over the sea and ruins of Byzantine residences and the Church of Agia Sofia.
The Old City Walls: Perfect for quiet walks and unforgettable photographs, especially in the late afternoon light.

Spring on the table
May in Greece means one thing: artichokes.
They appear everywhere — in village kitchens, seaside tavernas, and long family lunches. Simple, seasonal, and deeply rooted in tradition, artichokes are one of those ingredients that define Greek spring.
They’ve been part of the Greek diet since ancient times, and like many things here, they come with a story. According to myth, the artichoke was once a beautiful woman named Cynara, transformed into a plant by Zeus after rejecting him. Dramatic, of course — but very Greek.
Today, the approach is much simpler. Artichokes are cooked slowly with olive oil and lemon, turned into stews like “anginares a la polita,” or served raw with just salt and good bread. No complications, just quality ingredients treated properly.
Where we suggest to look for them in Athens
Akra @akra_ath — daily menu based on the market, this is where you ask what came in today
To Steki tou Ilia in Thiseio— classic, generous, and always reliable
Pharaoh @pharaohathens — ingredient-led cooking, no fixed expectations
It’s not about finding a specific dish.
It’s about being in the right place, at the right time.
If you are in Greece in May — ask for artichokes. That’s how it works.

Sifnos - a Synodos favorite.
Sifnos is one of those islands we always come back to — and always recommend.

It’s small, authentic, and quietly one of the best food destinations in Greece.

This is the island of Nikolaos Tselementes, the chef who shaped modern Greek cuisine, and that legacy is still very much alive. Think slow-cooked recipes, local ingredients, and meals that are meant to be enjoyed, not rushed.

Sifnos also has a long history of wealth from gold and silver mines, which helped shape its refined culture early on. Even today, its famous pottery is still used in traditional cooking, exactly as it was generations ago.

Life here is simple in the best way — beautiful villages, endless churches, and a slower rhythm that’s hard to leave behind.

Where to stay :

Verina Astra — effortless luxury with incredible views

Stamna Sifnos — elegant, authentic, and deeply connected to the island

Where to eat :

Omega3 — fresh seafood, right on the water

Cantina — relaxed and exactly what you want on a Greek island

To Meraki tou Manoli - traditional flavors done properly

Sifnos is not about trends. It’s about consistency, quality, and feeling good.

Private Yachting Tours from Athens — Synodos’ Favourite May Secret.

If you’ve ever pictured yourself on a private yacht with the sun on your skin and the Saronic Gulf sparkling ahead…

May is the month to make it real.

It’s the moment Greece loosens its shoulders. The islands reopen, the sea turns warm, marinas feel unhurried, and the winds stay polite. Sailing specialists call May “a very good period to sail Greece” thanks to calm seas, gentle breezes, and far fewer yachts chasing the same hidden bays.

And Athens is the perfect launchpad.

The Saronic Gulf—Aegina, Hydra, Spetses—sits comfortably sheltered from the strong Meltemi winds that dominate later in summer.

So your voyage stays smooth, sunny, and beautifully serene.

Put simply: May gives you the Greece everyone thinks August feels like.

With Synodos, this becomes a seamless escape: island‑hopping by yacht, quiet coves for swimming, long lunches by the sea, and late strolls through Hydra’s lantern‑lit harbor.

Our advice:

If you’re dreaming of a yachting getaway this year, start in May.

It’s the most effortless, refined, and quietly spectacular way to open the Greek summer.

Greek Orthodox Easter : Χριστός Ανέστη — Celebrate the Feast of Light in Greece
Easter in Greece carries a spirit unlike anywhere else. Long before it became the country’s most beloved holiday, communities across Greece gathered in spring to celebrate renewal, light, and the triumph of life over darkness. Over the centuries, these ancient traditions blended with Christian ritual, creating the unique Easter we know today — a celebration filled with candlelit processions, midnight bells, and families greeting one another with the timeless phrase: Χριστός Ανέστη — Christ is Risen.

From villages in the mountains to the lively streets of the Athens Riviera, the whole country comes alive with anticipation. Red‑dyed eggs knock together in friendly competition, slow‑cooked lamb fills the air with the scent of Sunday comfort, and tables overflow with warmth, laughter, and hospitality. It is a feast not only of food, but of connection — a reminder of why Greece is at its most magical in spring.

And from all of us at Synodos, inspired by these traditions and the joy they bring, we are delighted to say:

Happy Easter — may this season be bright, meaningful, and beautifully Greek.
