Ano Poli (Upper City) is located on the Northeast of the historical center. 🏙
It is known for its distinct architectural character, since it is the only part of the city where the old traditional urban fabric is preserved, with the narrow cobblestone streets and the unique buildings of traditional Macedonian architecture with the characteristic protrusions. 🏘

In 1917, there was a fire that burned down most of the city, completely destroying buildings of rare architectural value in the city center. 🔥
It is said the fire of 1917 started from the frying pan of a housewife who was cooking eggplants in her kitchen on Olympiados street. A new city was later rebuilt based on a plan prepared by the French architect Ernest Ebrard.
Today, you can still find the northern Medieval Byzantine walls of the city preserved in Ano Poli. 🧱

Explore your neighbourhood in Ano Poli and discover some must-visit spots: 🗺
📍Tower of Alyseos (Trigonio): Defensive tower, part of the walls, where you can enjoy the best panoramic view of the city.
📍Yedi Kule: Fortress consisting of ten towers and newer parts that were used as a jail. Open to visitors and you can also enjoy a different view of the city there.
📍Tsinari tavern: It is considered the last example of a typical tavern of this type from the period of Turkish rule.
📍Pasha’s gardens: A memorial park that used to be part of the Agios Dimitrios hospital. Nowadays, it is a famous hangout spot for young people.
📍Terpsithea’s and Kallitheas Square: Two famous squares in Ano Poli to gather with friends or family.

Some of the houses will also offer you access to a backyard or a balcony, where you can spend time outside if you like. 🏡

Our houses in Thessaloniki are located in Ano Poli (Upper City), a very beautiful neighbourhood, which is also very close to the historical center. 🏙
Everything you may need, stores, supermarkets, taverns, bars, etc. are easily accessed on foot, but the bus is an available option too.🚶‍♂️🚌
You may also discover that there are a lot of cats while exploring the area and possibly make new four-legged friends along the way.🐈

The White Tower is the main landmark of the city and it used to be part of its walls. You can visit it inside to learn more about the city’s history and then take a walk on the seafront to enjoy the beautiful view of the sea. 🌊
Thessaloniki is also very close to Chalkidiki, a peninsula famous as a summer destination on the north. 🏖

This beautiful city always has something going on and it never ceases to surprise you, making it the perfect location for your Greek experience. 💫
