🌾 TALLHEDA in Action — Two Countries, One Vision for Digital Agriculture!
On 1 April 2026, the TALLHEDA project brought its Key Actors Events to life simultaneously in Athens, Greece and Novi Sad, Serbia — a powerful demonstration of what European collaboration in agricultural education looks like in practice.
🇬🇷 Athens | Agricultural University of Athens
Under the theme "Digital Transformation in Agriculture: Knowledge and Innovation Networks", the hybrid event at the AUA Library Amphitheatre brought together professors, institutional representatives, industry stakeholders, and students. The packed programme covered geospatial technologies in digital farming, the digitisation of agricultural insurance processes (ΕΛ.Γ.Α.), AI-driven tools, satellite data applications, precision agriculture, and even a hands-on visit to an experimental hydroponic greenhouse. A dedicated e-poster session showcased student research born directly from the TALLHEDA project — from blockchain in food supply chains to augmented reality for aromatic plants. 🌿
🇷🇸 Novi Sad | Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad
Under the theme "Modern Technologies in Agriculture", the event at Lecture Hall P1 offered a rich programme on precision farming concepts, GNSS and navigation systems, remote sensing, drone applications for crop monitoring and protection, and agricultural machinery design and innovation. A fitting tribute to how digital tools are reshaping the way the next generation of agronomists thinks and works. 🚁
Together, these events reflect the heart of TALLHEDA — strengthening higher education in digital agriculture by connecting academia, industry, and research communities across Europe.

📅 Throwback to December 2024!
A little over a year ago, the TALLHEDA project took the stage at a national scientific conference in Novi Sad, Serbia — and it's a milestone worth remembering! 🌍
On 6 December 2024, our partners from the University of Novi Sad presented TALLHEDA's findings at the conference "Kvalitet zemljišta AP Vojvodine - značaj diverzifikacije proizvodnje za očuvanje zemljišta" — dedicated to soil quality in Vojvodina and the role of production diversification in soil preservation.
This was a wonderful opportunity to bring the project's work directly to the Serbian research community, sparking conversations at the intersection of sustainable land use, digital agriculture, and higher education excellence.
🎤 Through an oral presentation and abstract submission, TALLHEDA's vision and progress were shared with an engaged audience of researchers, academics, and practitioners — reinforcing the project's commitment to knowledge dissemination beyond borders.
Moments like these remind us why connecting with local and national scientific communities matters just as much as the pan-European dialogue. 🌱

Knowledge Knows No Borders!
We're excited to share the outcomes of a staff mobility visit under the TALLHEDA project (Horizon Europe), which brought together
researchers from the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), the University of Novi Sad (UNSFA), and the Flanders Research
Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO) in Ghent, Belgium.
Three PhD candidates from AUA — Effrosyni Bitakou, Konstantinos Gkountakos, and Maria Nikolopoulou — spent three intensive days
(24–26 February 2026) immersed in cutting-edge research and industry visits that perfectly illustrated what digital agriculture
looks like in practice.
Here's a snapshot of what made this visit truly special 👇
🤖 Computer Vision meets Livestock Farming — Discussions on ILVO's PigLife and poultry tracking projects sparked exciting cross-
disciplinary ideas, connecting animal behavior recognition with human crowd analysis techniques.
🌍 From Field to Satellite — A visit to VITO's Remote Sensing team showcased how Earth Observation platforms support large-scale
agricultural monitoring, complementing on-farm sensor systems.
🚜 Tech on Wheels — A behind-the-scenes visit to Vervaet, a leader in advanced agricultural machinery, led to a promising
collaboration agreement to test potato quality assessment frameworks on sugar beet crops.
🌐 Data Sovereignty in Agriculture — The DjustConnect platform demonstrated how secure, farmer-controlled data sharing can power
innovation without compromising trust.
This visit is a shining example of the TALLHEDA project's mission — strengthening alliances between higher education institutions
and research partners to drive excellence in digital agriculture across Europe.

🌱 Big news from TALLHEDA! Our Standardised Citizen Science Protocol for Digital Agriculture is now published on the Citizen Science Lighthouse! 🎉
This is a milestone we're incredibly proud of. The protocol — developed collaboratively by the TALLHEDA consortium — provides a comprehensive, replicable framework for citizen-led data collection in agricultural settings, covering everything from field data collection and metadata standards to quality assurance, training, and ethical participation.
It is designed to:
✅ Engage farmers, students, and communities as active contributors to agricultural research
✅ Ensure data quality through multi-layered validation and harmonised templates
✅ Be inclusive, accessible, and adaptable across widening regions of Europe
✅ Bridge the gap between Higher Education Institutions and farming communities
Publishing on the Citizen Science Lighthouse ensures the protocol reaches the broadest possible audience — from researchers and policymakers to citizen science practitioners and digital agriculture innovators across Europe and beyond.

On December 26, 2025, UNSFA hosted a presentation of one of the most technologically advanced systems in modern agriculture today — the DJI Agras T100 drone. In an academic setting, students had the chance to explore a technology that is currently at the forefront of global agricultural innovation: aerial application of plant protection products, precision fertilisation, and a wide range of other agrotechnical operations — all from the air. The event underscored something we strongly believe in at UNSFA: that the bridge between educational institutions, industry, and cutting-edge technological solutions is not a luxury — it is a necessity. Domestic agriculture deserves access to the best tools available, and future agronomists deserve to graduate knowing how to use them.
