Gyros or Yeeros?
Heated debate is likely to follow!

A gyro is a shortened form of the word gyroscope. So if you are ordering a gyro, you should call it YEE-ros. Say it again, yee-ros. Okay, now onto the ‘hard’ stuff.

Gyros means ‘turn’ in Greek, and it stands for a Greek dish on a vertical spit and usually served in a pita bread with tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce.
