Going through my archive.

I found my thesis project for my MA in Design Studies at Central Saint Martins (1999). It was called Boundaries: The Ins and Outs of Existence.

The MA became a bridge between my studies in the social sciences and my commitment to art. I had already turned to the image as a way of connecting inner experience to outside reality and giving form to intense personal experience. I was questioning the boundaries we draw between categories that structure experience: inside/outside, male/female, self/other, theory/practice.

The project was really about mediation.

I took the body, the home, the image and the family album as mediators between inside and outside, public and private. In between spaces where these distinctions begin to blur.

The outcome was an artist’s book: a hybrid object between theory and personal writing, book and artwork, image and text. It came in a box, unbound, without page numbers or a spine. Its pages were meant to hang from a rope like laundry, to be read through movement rather than sequence. An open book has no fixed boundaries; its pages can always be rearranged, creating new connections.

Twenty-six years later, I’m still making work about the same questions. But now painting has become a way of inhabiting them rather than explaining them. Working through colour, material and gesture, inside and outside, personal and collective images continually encounter and transform one another.

My August is green

So happy to be part of the wonderful exhibition Birds of Passage, curated by Isavella Kladaki at her amazing house in Santorini. I am participating with one of my favorite paintings from this year :Three figures in a landscape. Oil on linen, 35x45 cm.
I will be in good company alongside other wonderful painters, old and new friends, The exhibition opens tonight and I wish I was there! ,
