GPF DISMISSES OFFICER FOR IMPERSONATION AND UNAUTHORIZED WITHDRAWALS AT CREDIT UNION

Date: November 14, 2025

The Gambia Police Force has concluded investigations into an incident involving PC 9760 Sanna Mballow, who attempted to make an unauthorized withdrawal at the Brikama Police Cooperative Credit Union.

The investigation established that PC Mballow presented himself under the identity of another Credit Union member with the intention of fraudulently accessing the individual’s account. His actions were detected by staff, and he was immediately apprehended and handed over to the Police.

Further inquiries linked this incident to several previous unauthorized withdrawals from members’ accounts. His conduct was found to be a serious contravention of the Police Disciplinary Code as provided for under the Police Act, Cap 18, Vol. IV.

Subsequently, the Police initiated internal disciplinary action to address the various breaches committed. PC 9760 Sanna Mballow was ultimately dismissed from the Force with immediate effect. Following a thorough review, he was found guilty of impersonation, fraudulent conduct, and gross professional misconduct. As a result, the Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray, has dismissed him from The Gambia Police Force with immediate effect.

The GPF emphasizes that this was an isolated act by an individual officer and does not reflect the values, ethics, or professionalism of the institution. The Force remains committed to upholding discipline within its ranks and will take decisive action against any officer found wanting, without fear or favour.

The Gambia Police Force assures the public of its commitment to integrity, accountability, and the highest standards of service to the nation. 17/11/2025

ESSA FAAL A COWARD OR DOES HE NOT MIND HIS WORDS

"Dear Esteemed Gambians,

I want to take a moment to sincerely address my recent comments regarding the quality of education at the University of The Gambia. I realise that my words have caused anger and disappointment among many, and for that, I am genuinely sorry. My intention was never to demean or belittle the hard work and accomplishments of the University or the brilliant minds it has nurtured. Indeed, it is essential to recognise and applaud the numerous graduates who have gone on to achieve greatness both locally and internationally. I aimed to highlight areas for improvement in our educational system, hoping to spark constructive discussions that could lead to positive change.

As I reflect on this situation, I want to reaffirm my deep respect for every Gambian and the unique contributions they bring to our nation. I do not support elitism; rather, I believe in fostering a society where merit prevails, regardless of one’s background. Each individual has the potential to make a difference, and it is our collective responsibility to create an environment that nurtures and supports that potential. Education is a vital pillar of this endeavour, and I am committed to advocating for improvements that elevate our standards to benefit all Gambians.

Let us come together to celebrate our shared commitment to progress and inclusivity. My intention has always been to uplift and empower our youth, as they are the future of our nation. I appreciate the constructive feedback I have received and welcome further dialogue that can guide us toward a stronger, more resilient educational landscape. Together, we can ensure that every Gambian is valued and respected for their capabilities and contributions. Thank you for your understanding and support as we strive to build a better future for all.

With humility,
Essa Mbye Faal"
