More than 400 participants from across Africa and beyond are expected to converge in Dakar, Senegal, from 8 to 10 October 2026, for the Forum of NGOs Participating in the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).
Organised by the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS), the three-day forum will bring together civil society organisations, human rights defenders, lawyers, activists, researchers, academics, women and youth organisations, community-based organisations, and other stakeholders.
The forum will be held at the Pullman Dakar Teranga Hotel ahead of the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission. It is expected to provide a platform for civil society actors to assess human rights developments across the continent, exchange experiences, and develop recommendations for engagement with the African human rights system.

NEW PROJECT ALERT | 🚀
SheTale Media Network, with support from the Foundation for Women’s Health, Research and Development (FORWARD UK), is excited to launch a new initiative: “Youth Against FGM: Mobilising
Student-Led Action for Change.”
This 12-month initiative places young people at the forefront of efforts to prevent FGM in The Gambia. Young people are not just the audience for change; they can be the voices, leaders, and advocates driving it.
We will collaborate with Junior and Senior Secondary Schools across the West Coast, Lower River, and Upper River Regions, equipping students and teachers with the knowledge and practical skills needed for FGM prevention, child protection, advocacy, leadership, media, storytelling, and peer engagement.
The project will directly involve Students and Teachers, while also extending conversations into communities through youth-led campaigns, dialogues, and media outreach. From debates and poetry to drama, podcasts, radio programs, and social media advocacy, young people will have various platforms to express themselves, ask questions, create, and lead.
📢 From silence to dialogue. From awareness to action. From young voices to youth-led change.
The movement begins now!

💜 DAY 31 | KNOW YOUR RIGHTS — FINAL DAY
Access to Justice: Protection, Dignity, and Accountability
Today marks the final day of our 31-Day "Know Your Rights" campaign focused on the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls.
Article 12 emphasises that access to justice must safeguard a victim’s privacy, confidentiality, and anonymity. It calls for the implementation of protective, occupation, and restitution orders, as well as compensation or reparation. Additionally, it promotes appropriate rehabilitation programmes and measures aimed at fostering behavioural change to prevent repeat incidents of violence.
Over the past 31 days, we have explored the Convention's provisions on preventing violence, protecting women and girls, supporting survivors, and strengthening justice systems.
Understanding our rights is just the first step. It is our collective responsibility to turn these commitments into action.
Thank you for following, learning, and sharing throughout this series. 💜

💜 DAY 30 | KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
Access to Justice. Safety for Survivors.
Article 12 of the African Union (AU) Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls emphasises the need for effective and timely investigations, management, and hearings of cases involving violence against women and girls.
The article also highlights the importance of ensuring due process, expediting pre-trial and trial procedures, establishing dedicated special chambers within courts, and implementing measures to protect victims, dependents, and witnesses throughout the criminal justice process.
Justice must be timely, fair, and protective.
Protect victims. Protect witnesses. Strengthen access to justice.
