Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, I’ve dedicated one issue of In Circulation per year to Russian environmental imperialism. But for the 2025 installation of Annexing the Arctic, I was compelled to explore President Trump’s desire for Greenland and how we can make sense of it. Swipe through these excerpts (feat. a cool artist’s reconstruction of what Greenland looked like 2 million years ago) and click the link in my bio for the full piece ❄️

🎬 — What does “moana” mean in Hawaiian?
This week on we learn about Pacific climate and the role indigenous knowledge plays in helping scientists and policymakers alike. Click the link in my bio for more! 🌊🌺🏝️

2024 was the first in a long time where I truly read for pleasure — not in preparing for grad school, not for my college assignments, not to fulfill my pandemic goal of reading every book on the shelves. Aside from the articles and policy papers I consumed for work, this year was spent in pursuit of the ineluctable desire to be “well-read.” The books that weren’t to my taste taught me how *not* to tell a story, and the ones that were sharpened my perception of literature. I hope to continue searching out stories new and old in this New Year 💖

Mangroves and hurricanes and climate, oh my! Check out this week’s In Circulation to find out why journalists are still failing to differentiate between weather and climate, especially these phenomena’s effects on coastal wetlands. 🌳⛈️

Given the recent resurgence of philosophy in pop culture (cue the Charli Marx-cx memes), I was curious as to what different environmental philosophies had to say about the state of our ocean. My findings — as well as a history of marine conservation in the US — are the subject of this week’s In Circulation. 🔗 in bio!

“Wouldn’t it be interesting if people would pay attention to science as much as they paid attention to whatever Kim Kardashian had to say?”🧐
So says Gia Mora, an award-winning producer, actress, and songwriter. Her goal is that by communicating the intricacies of difficult fields like physics in a humorous and musical way, science will become a relatable part of our everyday lives. 🧪
This week, I had the privilege of interviewing her for In Circulation. We talked about ocean literacy, science’s inherent musicality, the difference between “writing” and “communication,” and so much more. Head to the link in my bio to read more! Thanks again Gia 🩵
