Positive Peer Influence Group - PPIG

Today, the Positive Peer Influence Group and theHopeEnough Childhood Cancer Initiative celebrate our founder and director, Prince De-Graft Wilson. We greatly appreciate all your hard work, passion and dedication to your course. Most of us, for the first time, sat to think about our live's purpose because you motivated and encouraged us. Some of us found our way back to school and church and shunned bad company because you held our hand and asked us to be your friend. Some of us never had hopes of making good grades to enable us take the next step of education but you took time off your busy work schedule to teach us and told us it could only get better. For these, we say thank you and God bless you richly. We hope to celebrate many more years with you and to also be able to influence others the way you have done for us. Happy birthday Sir! ๐Ÿฅ‚

As we all know, the COVID19 pandemic has affected several millions of people across the globe, forcing many governments to enforce certain lockdown and social distancing protocols in order to contain the spread. These protocols have exerted an enormous amount of pressure on every aspect of human life; economic, social and health, especially mental health etc. Most concerning is the mental health of young people, who with so much energy to expend, have been confined in their homes. These are difficult times and our thoughts are with everyone. However, for us at PPIG, we believe that in every challenge lies the potential for great opportunities for those who look hard enough or willing to create them. Letโ€™s get together and inspire possibilities. Join us on zoom as we host *Clement Opoku-Temeng (PhD)* to share the story of his journey to becoming his dreams. It will be up close and person. There will be an interactive Q&A session with other resource persons to respond to all your questions.

She serves in Leadership... an example to emulate. Highlights from from our Director in charge of Administration, Sitsope Abie Sepenu...

Day 1 of the Women Leaders in Global Health Conference has been all sorts of ah-mazing! And you know how Iโ€™m nice, Iโ€™ll try to share most of my highlights of the day with you because you need to hear them ๐Ÿคช

1. If they donโ€™t invite you to the table, you pull up a folding chair. If thereโ€™s no folding chair, you just sit on the table. In other words, donโ€™t wait for opportunities to be handed to you.

2. How did you get this voice? My father bought it with rather a lot of money. Fathers (parents) need to invest in their childrenโ€™s future because our ceilings should be the floor for those who come after us.

3. I was born an only child (girl) to a man from a very Patriarchal society who was given a lot of pressure to marry a 2nd wife to give him a boy child and my father said to me, this child will be far more than 10 men.

1, 2 and 3 by Ayoade Olatunbosun-Alakija(Chief Humanitarian Coordinator, Nigeria)

4. For many years, Kofi Annan was my direct boss and one thing I learned from him is โ€˜the long termโ€™ always think long term-Prof Peter Piot (Director, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine)

5. Being a good woman, a good wife, a good mom. What does it take? What does it mean? And what internal cultural barriers do you have to these things? Well...prepare for a shift in those barriers. We cannot sit around and wait for a drift anymore Breaking down those barriers is in your own interest cos otherwise, youโ€™ll continue running after a train that is moving faster.

6. The 12 years remaining to attain the SDGs might seem like an insignificant period in history but to that 10yr old girl who is being told to wait 12 more years to attain certain rights, itโ€™s everything. Join the shift

7. Itโ€™s bad enough to make assumptions on other peopleโ€™s cultures but treating them as the assumptions you have about them is just unacceptable

8. How does a leader get โ€˜goodโ€™ followers? When you put the need of your followers topmost, theyโ€™re willing to make any sacrifices no matter the circumstances. - Dean Gabriel Leung (Li Ka Shing Faculty of medicine, the University of Hong Kong

Nobody fights Alone...the childhood Cancer battle...

Support a Child with cancer today...

that high cost of drugs and laboratory tests compel some parents to abandon treatment of their children, resulting in increased mortality rate? Families and children fighting cancer in most developing countries face a double challenge 'fighting' than the ones in the developed world. This is the reason why we all need to come together and support!
