HYGIENE STUDENTS TOUR NSAWAM MEDIUM SECURITY PRISON
Students from the School of Hygiene in Ho, together with a delegation from the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Environmental Health Agency led by Madam Ferruza Mohammed Bawa, visited the Nsawam Medium Security Prison for an educational tour on environmental health and sanitation in correctional facilities.
During the visit, Superintendent Christopher Ahorlu guided them through the prison’s sanitation and waste management systems. The Public Relations Unit also sensitised them on the Ghana Prisons Service’s mandate and inmate rehabilitation programmes.
The students expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and described the visit as enriching, saying it linked classroom lessons with practical field experience.

POTS HOLDS FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME
As part of activities marking the Mental Health Celebration Month, the Prison Officers Training School (POTS) organized a Financial Empowerment Programme for officers on Monday,1st June, 2026, under the theme "Power to Make Wealth."
The programme sought to promote financial wellness as an important component of overall mental well-being, recognizing that good financial management contributes significantly to reduced stress and improved quality of life.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Commandant, DDP Isaac Abuaku-Ameyaw, who encouraged officers to take advantage of the opportunity to strengthen their financial literacy and make informed financial decisions.
The resource person, Elder Paul Kofi Mante in his presentation, highlighted five key principles for financial empowerment and challenged officers to adopt "a new way of thinking" by moving away from traditional mindsets and embracing principles that promote financial growth and sustainability.
The programme forms part of POTS commitment to promoting the holistic well-being of officers by supporting their mental, emotional, social, and financial health.

INTERIOR MINISTER VISITS HO CENTRAL AND FEMALE PRISONS
The Minister of Interior, Hon Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, accompanied by the Volta Regional Minister, Hon James Gunu paid a working visit to the Ho Central Prison and Ho Female Prison on 1st, June 2026 to have interactions with the inmates.
A Guard of Honor was mounted to welcome the Minister. The Regional Commander, Deputy Director of Prisons Joseph A. Vuu in his welcome address gave a brief overview of the facility. According to him, the facility was built for 150 inmates but now holds 320 inmates with measures in place to decongest including transfers, amnesty, and Justice For All programmes.
Hon. Muntaka, speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana thanked the Regional Commander for the warm welcome. He also stated some accomplishments government has made including raising the inmate feeding fee from GH¢1.80 to GH¢5.00 and granted amnesty to 900 inmates last year. He added that the Community Service Bill has been laid before Parliament, while the Presidential Pardon and Parole Regulation awaits approval.
The Minister concluded his tour by visiting the Ho Female Prison where he had interactions with inmates and assured them of the government's commitment towards their welfare. Accompanying the Minister for lnterior were Commanders of Sister Security Services.

DUAYAW NKWANTA CAMP PRISON SENSITIZES INMATES
Health personnel from the Duayaw Nkwanta Health Center as part of the Mental Health Awareness Month on 27th May, 2026 organized a sensitization programme for the inmates of the station.
The programme was aimed at educating inmates on the harmful effects associated with the misuse of drugs and other addictive substances. During the session, the health officers discussed the causes of substance abuse, its physical and psychological effects, and the long-term consequences addiction can have on individuals, families, and communities.
Inmates were encouraged to avoid peer influence, embrace positive behaviour, focus on rehabilitation and self-improvement. They were also advised to seek counselling and medical support when necessary.
The sensitization programme forms part of efforts to promote healthy living and support the reformation and reintegration of inmates into society.

HOPE BEHIND BARS FOUNDATION MARKS 5TH ANNIVERSARY AT NSAWAM PRISON
Hope Behind Bars Foundation (HBBF) celebrated its fifth anniversary with an outreach programme at Nsawam Medium Security Prison bringing hope, encouragement and spiritual guidance to inmates.
Speaking during the anniversary celebration, the founder reflected on the journey of the foundation and expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness. He encouraged inmates not to lose hope, emphasizing that every individual has the opportunity to rebuild their lives and pursue a better future.
HBBF remains committed to inspiring restoration and positive change among inmates through faith and acts of support.

SAB FOUNDATION HOLDS HAIR BRAIDING AND MAKEUP ARTISTRY COMPETITION AT KUMASI CENTRAL PRISON
SAB Foundation led by Madam Victoria A. Yalley has organized a hair braiding and make-up Artistry Competition at the Kumasi Central Prison and the Kumasi Female Prison some part of the Creative Arts initiative under the Think Prisons 360 Degrees.
The colourful event, which drew dignitaries from across the Ashanti Region, featured competitions in hair braiding, makeup artistry, dancing, and rap.
Competing inmates displayed remarkable skill and artistry, with each category producing impressive performances that drew applause from the gathering. Winners across all competition categories received cash prizes donated by the SAB Foundation as an encouragement to the inmates and a recognition of their individual talents.
The event reinforces the Think Prisons 360 Degrees initiative's core philosophy of holistic inmate rehabilitation, recognising that creativity, skills development, and social reintegration are as vital to the reform process as any formal programme.
