Commendations to NACOC for this major breakthrough. Seizing over 2.3 tonnes of illicit drugs is not just a win against trafficking, but a step towards protecting Ghana’s youth and communities from substance abuse. More intelligence-led operations, public education and community collaboration are needed to completely uproot this menace. Keep up the good work! 🇬🇭👏

ECONOMICS 101: Why You Can’t “Share GDP” (And Why That Viral Statement Belongs in a Maths Classroom, Not Public Policy)

So I came across a bold claim from one of the organizers of the current xenophobic campaign, and honestly… it sounds like someone tried to explain economics after watching a YouTube summary at 2x speed.

The statement goes like this:

“We’re almost 100 million people in South Africa and our GDP is more than billions of rands. Our government can share a million rand to each citizen every year for the rest of their lives.”

At this point, GDP itself is quietly packing its bags and leaving the chat.

Let’s break this down gently — not to insult anyone, but because economics is clearly crying for help here.

First Correction: GDP is NOT a money pot

Let’s start with the biggest confusion.

GDP is not:
* A bank account 💳
* A stash of cash in government vaults 🏦
* A “national jackpot” 🎰

GDP is simply a measure of economic activity — the total value of everything produced in a country:

* Food grown 🌽
* Services like haircuts 💇🏾‍♂️
* Cars manufactured 🚗
* Electricity generated ⚡
* Even this Facebook post (yes, content creation counts)

It is a scoreboard, not a safe full of cash.

You cannot withdraw “GDP money” any more than you can withdraw “points” from a football scoreboard.

Second: The “maths that needed supervision”

Let’s humor the idea for a second.

If you give:
* 100 million people
* 1 million rand each per year

That equals:
100 trillion rand per year

Now compare that with any realistic national economy.

Even global economies would pause, blink twice, and quietly ask, “Is this satire?”

But according to the original claim, this comes from a country allegedly producing only “ more than billion rands GDP.”

At that point, even a primary school calculator would request a transfer to another class.

Trying to distribute more money than the entire economy produces is like:
pouring the ocean into a teacup
and getting angry that the teacup didn’t cooperate

Third: Why governments don’t “share GDP”

Even if GDP were magically converted into cash (which it isn’t), governments still can’t just hand it out like party favors.

Why?
1. GDP is not stored money
It’s the value of production — not a pile of cash sitting somewhere waiting for giveaways.

2. Inflation would destroy everything

If everyone suddenly got “free million rand,” prices would explode immediately:
* Bread: R5 → R50,000
* Rent: becomes a negotiation with tears
* That million rand? Emotionally rich, practically broke

3. Economies need production, not handouts

If everyone just receives money without production:

* Who farms the food?
* Who runs the hospitals?
* Who fixes roads?
* Who even makes the money meaningful?

By Monday afternoon, the economy would be on “auto-shutdown.”

Fourth: The myth of “they are here for your GDP”

Another interesting misunderstanding is the idea that other African nationals are “coming to take GDP.”

But GDP is not a cake sitting in a fridge.

It is constantly being created and expanded by:

* workers
* traders
* entrepreneurs
* consumers

People contribute to GDP when they:

* buy goods 🛒
* pay rent 🏠
* work in businesses 🧑🏾‍💼

So instead of “draining GDP,” they are often part of the process that builds it.

Economies grow through participation, not isolation.

Final thought
At the end of the day, GDP is not a lottery ticket. Government is not a money-sharing app. And economics is definitely not a vibes-based subject.

If anyone still believes GDP can be divided like inheritance, we may need to urgently locate their Grade 3 maths teacher for an emergency intervention.

Until then:
Let’s grow economies
Not misunderstand them
And definitely not turn them into comedy scripts

What’s the funniest economic misconception you’ve ever heard?

Mr President John Dramani Mahama, many people expect you to ensure that this trip produces visible and practical benefits back home — not just speeches, photos, and diplomatic ceremonies.

Some expectations Ghanaians may have include:

* Attracting real investments that create jobs for the youth, especially in agriculture, mining, technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
* Securing economic partnerships that help stabilize the cedi, improve exports, and reduce the rising cost of living.
* Convincing foreign investors that Ghana is politically stable, business-friendly, and safe for investment.
* Using meetings with leaders like Keir Starmer and King Charles III to strengthen trade, education, healthcare, and energy cooperation between Ghana and United Kingdom.
* Engaging the Ghanaian diaspora in London to encourage remittances, skills transfer, tourism, and business support for Ghana.
* Returning home with clear agreements, timelines, and policies that ordinary citizens can eventually feel in their daily lives.

Beyond diplomacy, many citizens would judge the success of the trip by simple questions such as:

* Will this reduce unemployment?
* Will prices go down?
* Will businesses get opportunities?
* Will roads, hospitals, schools, and industries improve?
* Will the economy become stronger?

For many Ghanaians, the expectation is simple: international trips should translate into tangible development and improved living conditions for the ordinary person.

Dripping in "Kaw-Kolbu🪶" Elegance!

If your fugu doesn't look like it’s ready to command respect at a Dagara gathering, are you even really wearing one?

Huge thanks to Delmwine afriq for this "Kaw-Kolbu" (Guinea fowl feather) masterpiece! In Dagara culture, the guinea fowl is the ultimate VIP. It’s not just a bird; it’s our currency of respect:
* Marriage: Essential for the dowry.
* Hospitality: Only for the most important guests.
* Friendship: A symbol for those we truly value.
* And let’s be real—the Guinea fowl business is the original "Stock Market!" Between the live birds, roasted delicacies and eggs, it’s a full-blown empire.

I’m walking around looking like a Dagara aristocrat today. If you want to join the league of the stylish and the respected, check out Delmwine Afriq. They have supplied free fugu to all the tourists and bloggers I took to her shop including Juliana Kamiile Ziekyeree and Twins Diaries who are now the face of Delmwine Afriq.

What else do we use guinea fowl for?
Does your wardrobe have a piece of "Kaw-Kolbu" history yet, or are you still lagging behind?
If you were gifted a live guinea fowl today instead of this fabric, would you rather keep it as a pet, or is it going straight to the roasting pot for dinner?

🚨 Road Accident Alert 🚨

Two SANYON buses were involved in a head-on collision this morning on the Wa Airstrip Road, leaving both drivers and eight passengers injured.

As we observe the Ramadan season, drivers and all road users are urged to exercise extra caution, avoid speeding, and stay focused behind the wheel.

Let’s keep our roads safe. What measures do you think can help reduce road accidents in our communities?
