It’s no secret that we love 😍African theatre over here. But last weekend we took a cinematic intermission at Silverbird Cinemas in Accra Mall.
Look, I know I’m late on this one. But when a film honors one of the greatest performers of all time, you make time. It was worth every single minute.
Was I singing and dancing in my seat? I mean…weren’t you? 🎤💃🏿

We did a thing, y’all! ✨
Today, we led a virtual playwriting workshop for arts Theatre Renaissance Cabaret Festival! Our brilliant participants joined us from across the continent. Hailing from Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Ghana.🌍
Now, full disclosure: the workshop started off a little wonky. We hit some technical difficulties and weren't even able to record the session. Look, we know theatre... but mastering virtual meeting logistics is a whole different story!
But once we got past the tech issues, we were on our ZOOM! We don’t want to brag, but let us boast a little. The workshop was two hours long, and NOT A SINGLE PERSON LEFT. That’s a win in our book! 🙌🏿
Still floating on the energy of these global creatives. Check out the images for a few of our favorite takeaways from the workshop.
Meet William Ashong, the Programmes Manager at the . He shares the inspiration behind Wednesday Theatre. Started in 2018, this unique initiative provides a dedicated space where independent playwrights, directors, and actors—regardless of their formal background—can come together showcase their work on a national stage.
Do they have initiatives like Wednesday Theatre where you’re from?

JSika Entertainment was marked present! 🙋🏿♀️🙋🏾♂️🎭
We recently caught "The Fifth Betrayal," the latest production from Wednesday Theatre, the National Theatre of Ghana’s initiative dedicated to uplifting emerging theatre professionals. Check out the play’s cast and crew.
Since 2018, Wednesday Theatre has featured productions the last Wednesday of every month. It is a launchpad for new plays. And we LOVE this artistic consistency and community ❤️💛💚
Have you experienced a theatre initiative quite like this where you’re from?

Spotted this banner at the National Theatre of Ghana. The quote reads: “When what you hear does not please your heart, you pretend that you are deaf.” (Does this resonate with you? Girl, you might have a problem 😅)
It’s a line from THE ALIEN KING by Dr. Mohammed ben Abdallah, a trailblazer for Ghanaian drama.
Connecting with African theatre and literature at the source hits differently. Definitely visit the National Theatre when you’re in Accra!
🌍 Building bridges from the US to Malawi. 🎭
This is what supporting JSika Entertainment looks like. We’re making sure that the next generation of African voices has the tools, the foundation, and the global network to take their stories from idea to page (and eventually to the stage).
