Thermal Break vs Non-Thermal Aluminum — Practical Proof

Recently, I shared a post explaining thermal break profiles and why they matter. This short demonstration makes it visual 👀.

When both profiles are exposed to extreme cold (-26°C), the non-thermal break aluminum frosts over, while the thermal break profile remains close to room temperature — a clear 20°C difference.
What this shows is thermal resistance, not just cold performance.

👉 In hot climates like ours, the principle works in reverse: Thermal break profiles slow down heat transfer from the outside, helping interiors stay cooler, improving comfort, and reducing dependence on fans or air-conditioning.

Installing Windows & Doors After Plastering

As promised, let’s talk about installing windows and doors after plastering.

This approach is often blamed for tight fittings and compromised installations — but the real issue is usually when fabrication happens, not the method itself.
Problems arise when windows are fabricated strictly from architectural drawings, without verifying the final plastered opening sizes on site.

Plaster thickness, uneven dressing, and site tolerances can easily reduce openings, leading to:
⚠ Tight or forced installations
⚠ Alignment challenges
⚠ Compromised performance

However, when final site measurements are taken after plastering and dressing, many of these risks disappear.

✅ Clean finishing
✅ Accurate fabrication
✅ Proper fitting without stress

The problem is rarely when you install — IT'S WHEN YOU MEASURE.

Good glazing is about coordination, not shortcuts.

One of the questions we get asked a lot on site is this:
Should windows and doors be installed before plastering… or after? 🤔

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — but TIMING, MEASUREMENT, and COORDINATION matter more than most people realise.

Let’s start with installing before plastering 👇

When windows and doors are installed before plastering (with margins left to be dressed later), it allows installers to:

✅ Work with the true masonry opening
✅ Achieve better alignment and leveling
✅ Secure frames properly without forcing
✅ Avoid size conflicts caused by plaster thickness
This method works well because fabrication is done against real, existing openings, not assumptions on drawings.

Of course, frames must be properly protected during plastering — otherwise, finishing trades can cause damage to the windows and doors that have been installed. There are be the need to cover them properly during plastering, painting and other finishing works.
