MAN DIES IN PRISON; FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE

The family of Emmanuel Asamoah is calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death in prison less than a week after he was sentenced to four years imprisonment for causing harm.

According to sources, Emmanuel Asamoah, a resident of Sankore in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region, went into hiding after allegedly causing harm to another individual. He was later arrested by officers of the Goaso Police in what witnesses described as a “Rambo-style” operation after he resurfaced and returned to Sankore.

Family members claim that Emmanuel complained of ill health following his arrest but that his concerns were allegedly ignored by the police. Despite efforts by relatives to secure bail for him, he was arraigned before a court and reportedly underwent a two-day trial.

The family further alleges that Emmanuel was not provided with legal representation during the proceedings before being convicted and sentenced to serve a four-year prison term at the Sunyani Central Prison.

According to reports, relatives visited him at the prison shortly after his sentencing, only to be informed the following day that he had passed away.

A family source disclosed that a preliminary report suggested Emmanuel suffered internal bleeding and trauma, raising concerns about the circumstances that may have led to his death.

The deceased leaves behind two children.

His family is now demanding justice and has appealed to the appropriate authorities to conduct a full and independent investigation to establish the exact cause of his death and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred.

FOUR NURSES AWAITING GOVERNMENT POSTING ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY STEALING GH₵5 MILLION AT AMEGASHIE HERBAL CLINIC

Four nurses awaiting government posting have been arrested over allegations that they diverted approximately GH₵5 million belonging to Amegashie Herbal Clinic into their personal accounts.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the facility, Dr. Amegashie, the suspects were apprehended following an internal investigation at the clinic’s Kasoa branch, which uncovered an alleged long-running scheme involving the misappropriation of hospital funds.

Dr. Amegashie explained that the accused staff members allegedly created and maintained a separate register to record payments made by some patients. Instead of entering all transactions into the clinic’s official accounting system, the nurses are said to have kept portions of the funds for themselves.

The alleged fraudulent activities reportedly resulted in losses amounting to nearly GH₵5 million, prompting management to involve law enforcement authorities.

The CEO expressed disappointment over the incident, questioning the integrity of healthcare professionals entrusted with handling patients and public resources. He noted that honesty and accountability are essential qualities expected of workers, particularly those who may eventually serve in public healthcare institutions.

The suspects are currently assisting with investigations as authorities work to establish the full extent of the alleged financial misconduct.

Further details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
