Ghana is in mourning today. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late President Jerry John Rawlings, has died. She passed away on Thursday, 23 October 2025 at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

She was born on 17 November 1948 in the Central Region and became a powerful voice for women and social change in Ghana. Among her many roles:

Served as First Lady through multiple terms (1979 & from 1981-2001).

Founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, which impacted women’s empowerment and education.

In 2016, she made history by running for president, making her Ghana’s first female presidential candidate.

Her legacy is deep and will endure. Ghana has lost a pioneer, but her work lives on.
