๐Ÿท Qvevri are large, egg-shaped terracotta clay pots used for the fermentation and maturation of wine in Georgia. They are either buried below ground or set into the floors of large wine cellars.
๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช In western Georgia qvevri are called churi.
Modern qvevri range 800 to 3500 liters; the smaller ones are used for fermentation, the larger, for elevage.
๐Ÿ‘‰ The clay qvevri are lined once before use with melted beeswax. It helps to waterproof and sterilize qvevri, making winemaking a more hygienic process and the vessels easier to clean after each use.
๐Ÿ‘Œ Qvevri wines are intensely aromatic, displaying an intriguing mix of fruit and savory characteristics. Among these are oxidative notes, which are developed thanks to the vesselโ€™s porosity.
โœ… In 2013 UNESCO registered the Qvevri winemaking method on its List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

๐Ÿ“Œ In the eighteenth century, artisans began creating printed textiles, using woodblocks with decorative engravings. The method of โ€œcold vat dyeing,โ€ which originated in the East, spread widely in Georgia in those times.
๐Ÿ”ท These textiles in Georgia were colored blue using indigo paint. In addition to its inherent beauty, the color was also chosen to disguise stains caused by the spills of dark Georgian red wines.
โ„น๏ธ The specific character of the patterns and, most importantly, the color, made Georgian textiles different from their Russian and European counterparts.
๐Ÿ”ต These products are known as lurji supra, the โ€œblue tablecloths.โ€
๐Ÿ”ท The pattern depends on the craftsmen, who create compositions based on specific themes, at his sole discretion. Georgian artists enriched the compositions with the figures of women and men in national costumes, flora, fauna, household items and more.
๐Ÿ‘‰ The tablecloth was granted the status of UNESCO material monument in 2017

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช Minankari is an ancient Georgian technique of jewelry making, which became a part of Georgian culture. According to the earliest survived examples, the art of Georgian cloisonnรฉ enamel has no less than 1200 years of existence.
๐Ÿง The technique of Minankari is a laborious and painstaking process that cannot be mechanized. And this means that it is almost impossible to find two identical ornaments. Each product is a unique hand-made work. It is also worth mentioning that Minankari enamel is used only in conjunction with noble metals: gold and silver. With other metals, the enamel โ€œis not friendlyโ€, changes its color and does not stick to the base.
๐Ÿ‘‘ The jewelry often feature traditional patterns, motives from legends and history.
If you are interested in the unique Georgian enamel technique, its history and making process, then our Art tour is for you. You will be able to attend a workshop and create your own silver pendant - the perfect individual souvenir.

โ›ฐ Vardzia is a rock-carved fortress stretched over 500 meters. It is located in the historic region of Samtskhe-Javakheti and consists of 600 rooms.
This cave town is a monument of Georgian history, culture and religion. It should be mentioned that the site is included in the UNESCO world culture heritage list as one of the most unique rock-hewn towns.
๐Ÿ‘‘ The name of the cave-town is connected with Queen Tamar, the great female monarch (Mepe) of Georgia from 1184 to 1213, presiding over the apex of the Georgian Golden Age. According to the legend, young Tamar, when out hunting, lost in the caves; when called for, she replied "I am here, uncle" (Georgian: โ€œaq var dzia"), giving the site its name.

๐ŸฅŸ One of the most popular Georgian dish โ€“ Khinkali, most probably came to Georgia during Mongol rule in the 12-13 centuries, but Georgian Khinkali is quite different from its Asian ancestors.
๐Ÿ‘Œ Khinkali is a Georgian dumpling, which originated in the Georgian mountain regions of Pshavi, Mtiuleti and Khevsureti.
โ„น๏ธ The fillings of khinkali vary with the area. The original recipe, the so-called khevsuruli, consisted of only minced meat (lamb or beef and pork mixed), onions, chili pepper, salt, and cumin. However, the modern recipe used mostly especially in Georgian urban areas, the so-called kalakuri, uses herbs like parsley and coriander.
๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿง€ For vegetarians there are Khinkali with mushrooms, potatoes, or cheese fillings.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช ๐Ÿ‡ Georgia is a land where wine has been made for at least 8,000 years, with its unique techniques and taste. The whole country produces wine, and the particular grape varietals all have their specific micro-zones scattered across the national territory. However, the most well-known region for producing Georgian wine is Kakheti. Then comes Imereti, Kartli, Svaneti, Adjara, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In this post we would like to introduce you 5 most popular Georgian semi-sweet wines which we think have to be tasted by wine-lovers.
๐Ÿท Usakhelauri from Lechkhumi region of western Georgia is undoubtedly the most popular semi-sweet wine in this country and it is also the most expensive Georgian wine. It is characterized by beautiful ruby or ripe pomegranate color, pure-bred aroma, enjoyable sweetness and harmonious mixture of constituents.
๐Ÿท Khvanchkara is an appellation of origin. This is a controlled, high-quality red semi-sweet wine. It is produced in Racha region of western Georgia, from Mujuretuli and Aleksandrouli grapes. "Khvanchkara" has dark-ruby color, harmonious, velvety, delicate, pleasant sweetness as well as fruit flavor.
๐Ÿท Akhasheni is made of Saperavi grapes in Kakheti and is a highest-quality red, naturally semi-sweet wine. "Khvanchkara" has dark-ruby color, harmonious, velvety, delicate, pleasant sweetness as well as fruit flavor.
๐Ÿท Tvishi, like Usakhelauri, is produced in Lechkhumi. Tvishi (an appellation of origin) is a very high-quality semi-sweet white wine. It is made of Tsolikouri grapes and has a pale straw color, harmonious taste, fruit flavor and pleasant sweetness.
๐Ÿท Ojaleshi is a Megrelian wine made of the eponymous grapes. It is a red semi-sweet wine of Colchian type, spread mainly in Martvili, Tsalenjikha and Chkhorotsku municipalities. There is also a Lechkhumian (Orbeluri) Ojaleshi, which is a completely different type but also makes a very good red semi-sweet wine.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ช Chichilaki- georgian christmas tree
๐Ÿ‘‰ Chichilaki is environmentally friendly Christmas tree than cutting down evergreen trees, as Chichilaki are made only from pruned branches, leaving the hazelnut trees healthy and intact.
โ„น๏ธ Chichilaki is a menโ€™s craft. Before New Year Eve, a man cuts hazelnut tree branches and put them in the water. Then they are dried in front of a stove. It is repeatedly shaved with special knife all around and curly fronds attached at the top.
It was believed to be the symbol of sun and tree of life. The main attribute of Chichilaki were the two bow-shaped items called Kalpi and Bokeri that were put on the Chichilaki. Kalpi was made from ivy leafs and Bokeri was a bread baked with eggs, flour, and cheese both as the symbols of life and fertility.
Chichilaki originated in the provinces of Guria and Samegrelo, the western part of the country while Khoncha, a decorated board tray with bread, sweets, pomegranate, nuts, wine, and ritual breads originated in eastern Georgia.
๐ŸŽ‡ The chichilakis are ceremoniously burned on the day before the Georgian Orthodox Epiphany on 19 January to symbolize the passing of the previous year's troubles.
