One of the most important findings from our recent study is the prevalent consumer belief that higher-priced food is synonymous with safety. This assumption, deeply embedded in our shopping habits, suggests that we often equate the cost of food with its quality and, by extension, its safety —a misconception that behavioral science helps to demystify. 🧠💸

The concept of 'value-based association'— is a phenomenon where consumers equate the cost of an item with its overall value, including safety. This cognitive shortcut helps simplify decision-making but can lead us astray, especially when it comes to something as critical as food safety.

Our study highlights the need to distinguish between quality and safety in consumer perceptions. While quality might relate to taste, texture, or nutritional value, safety is about the absence of harmful substances or pathogens—a distinction that doesn't always correlate with price.

Educating consumers on the differences between safety and quality, and promoting transparency in food safety standards, can help dismantle this misconception. This assumption is rooted in the 'halo effect,' where our positive perceptions of 'natural' and 'rural' extend to unwarranted assumptions about food safety and quality. 🧠✨

Behavioral science tells us that this bias towards rural products can significantly impede our food safety efforts. It's a classic example of heuristic thinking - making decisions based on generalized beliefs rather than concrete evidence. ინიციატივის მთავარი ამოცანა დისკრიმინაციისა და გენდერული სტერეოტიპების მავნე ზეგავლენის შემცირება და გენდერულად ინკლუზიურ სერვისებზე ხელმისაწვდომობის ზრდა იყო სამედიცინო სფეროს პრაქტიკოსებში.

🔎 პროექტის ფარგლებში 2023 წელს:

🔸 ჩავატარეთ ქცევითი ინსაიტების კვლევა, რათა დაგვედგინა, თუ რა ძირითადი ფსიქოლოგიური, სტრუქტურული თუ სოციალური ბარიერები არსებობს პაციენტებთან ურთიერთობაში გენდერულად სენსიტიური თემების განხილვის ან აღმოჩენის თვალსაზრისით.

How to Increase Access to Gender-Inclusive Health Services Using Behavioral Science Approaches ❓

In cooperation with DemLab, we implemented the second stage of the project supported by IWPR 👇

🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ We provided training on communicating with LGBTQ+ patients to approximately 100 individuals in the medical sector across Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Batumi.

The primary objective of the initiative is to reduce the harmful impacts of discrimination and gender stereotypes, while enhancing access to gender-inclusive services among medical practitioners.

🔎 What happened within the project in 2023:

🔸 We conducted behavioral insights research to identify the major psychological, structural, or social barriers to discussing or discovering gender-sensitive topics in patient interactions.

🔸 DemLab implemented a communication campaign and reached out to representatives of the LGBTQ+ community

🔸 We have developed a service protocol for doctors, clinic administration and healthcare representatives.

🔸Up to 50 representatives of the medical field attended the training

📝 The initiative was implemented with the support of the United Kingdom and the Institute of War and Peace Reporting (IWPR).

🏛 BISC Partners-ის გუნდმა გაეროს სწრაფი განვითარების ლაბორატორიასთან (UNDP Accelerator Lab) თანამშრომლობით შეიმუშავა კურსი - “ქცევითი ინსაითები და საჯარო პოლიტიკა” (Behavioral Insights and Public Policy).

👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 2023 წლის დეკემბერში ტრენინგის 5 სესიას ასამდე საჯარო მოხელე დაესწრო. ტრენინგების მიზანს წარმოადგენს, ხელი შეუწყოს ქართველ საჯარო მოხელეებს შესაძლებლობების გაძლიერებასა და საჯარო პოლიტიკის შემუშავებაში, ქცევის მეცნიერებისა და ქცევითი ინსაითების გამოყენების გზით.

🟢 ქცევით ინსაითებზე დაფუძნებით შემუშავებული სტრატეგიები და პროგრამები საჯარო პოლიტიკაში გაცილებით უფრო მდგრადი ცვლილების მომტანია. ქცევითი ინსაითების გამოყენების არეალი ფართოა და მოიცავს ისეთ სფეროებს, როგორიცაა: საზოგადოებრივი ჯანდაცვა, გარემოს დაცვა, მომხმარებელთა დაცვა, განათლება, სატრანსპორტო პოლიტიკა, საგზაო და კიბერუსაფრთხოება და სხვა.

🟢 ქცევითი ინსაითები ინდუქციური, მრავალდისციპლინარული მიდგომაა, რომელიც მოიცავს ელემენტებს ქცევის მეცნიერებიდან, ქცევის ეკონომიკიდან, ანთროპოლოგიიდან, სოციალურ ფსიქოლოგიისა და კოგნიტური ფსიქოლოგიიდან. კომბინაციაში ემპირიულად გადამოწმებულ შედეგებთან, აღნიშნული მიდგომა განსაზღვრავს თუ „რეალურად“ როგორ იღებენ ადამიანები გადაწყვეტილებას

📖 BISC Partners-მა აგრეთვე შეიმუშავა სახელმძღვანელო და ინსტრუმენტთა ნაკრები საჯარო მოხელეებისთვის - „შესავალი ქცევითი ანალიზის მეთოდოლოგიაში’’.

🏛 In collaboration with the United Nations Accelerator Lab (UNDP Accelerator Lab), the BISC Partners team developed the course 'Behavioral Insights and Public Policy.'’

👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 Five training sessions were conducted in December 2023, with the participation of approximately one hundred civil servants.

🟢 The objective of the training sessions is to assist Georgian civil servants in capacity building and the development of public policy by using behavioral science and behavioral insights. Strategies and programs based on behavioral insights are more likely to bring about more sustainable change in public policy. The field of application of behavioral insights is wide and includes such areas as: public health, environmental protection, consumer protection, education, transport policy, road and cyber security and others.

🟢 Behavioral Insights is an inductive, multidisciplinary approach that incorporates elements from behavioral science, behavioral economics, anthropology, social psychology, and cognitive psychology. In combination with empirically verified results, this approach determines how people "really" make decisions.

📖 BISC Partners has also developed a guide and toolkit for public officials - "Introduction to Behavioral Analysis Methodology".

🇺🇳🇬🇧🇩🇪🇶🇦 The training was part of UNDP’s two key initiatives: the UK-funded "Supporting Public Administration Reform in Georgia" and the Accelerator Lab, backed by Germany and Qatar.

🟢 ეს ''მიკერძოება'' (Bias) - ''ზედმეტი ოპტიმიზმი'' - ჩვენს ბოლო კვლევაში ‘’მომხმარებელთა სურსათის უვნებლობასთან დაკავშირებული ქცევის მამოძრავებელი ფაქტორები’’ გამოიკვეთა

ამისგან თავის არიდების ხერხი მარტივია - პროდუქციის შეძენისას კარგად უნდა გადავამოწმოთ სურსათის უვნებლობის პარამეტრები, თუნდაც საქმე კარგად ნაცნობ ბრენდებს ან ობიექტებს ეხებოდეს.

განსაკუთრებით ფრთხილად უნდა ვიყოთ არასერტიფიცირებული პროდუქტების შეძენისას - იქნება ეს კონსერვირებული თუ სხვაგვარად დამუშავებული.

🟢 BISC Partners-მა ეს კვლევა ევროკავშირის მიერ დაფინანსებული პროექტის „გაზრდილი სასოფლო-სამეურნეო პრაქტიკა და მომხმარებელთა ცნობიერება“ ფარგლებში, საქართველოს სტრატეგიული კვლევებისა და განვითარების ცენტრი-ს დაკვეთით განახორციელა

🟢 Პროექტი ENPARD - საქართველოს მხარდაჭერით მიმდინარეობს და მას საქართველოს ფერმერთა ასოციაცია/Georgian Farmers' Association ახორციელებს.

🟢 სურსათის უვნებლობის სტანდარტის გასაუმჯობესებლად მომხმარებლების ქცევის ცვლილების ხელშეწყობა, ერთ-ერთი მნიშვნელოვანი ამოცანაა.
