Have you seen our two yellow spotted newts in our paludarium near the reptile room? 💛

The yellow-spotted newt is highly vulnerable in the wild. Its fragile mountain habitats are threatened by human interference, such as dam construction, which alters stream ecosystems. These adorable little newts can live up to 20 years in captivity and are extremely interesting to watch go about their day! 🩷

Leopard Tortoise

We have one baby leopard tortoise currently and look at that little face 🥺 they are native to Africa and are their forth biggest tortoise species 😱 they can live up to 80 years with some individuals being documented to be over 100 years old! 👴 Unlike many other tortoises, they do not dig their own burrows. Instead, they seek shelter in abandoned holes made by animals like jackals, aardvarks, and foxes.

Blue Tongue Skink 💙🦎

Blue tongue skinks are famous for their bright blue tongues, as you can see in the photo below 😂 they are very vocal lizards that puff and hiss as a defense. They also puff up their bodies and flash their bright tongues as a warning. Unlike most reptiles they give birth to live young 😱 they have very strong teeth and jaws and love to even snack on snails 🐌
