We're making a splash, in the latest AVRO magazine!
It is an enormous honour to share that Rockhopper Rescue & Recovery feature in the latest issue of the AVRO magazine!
The piece, which focuses on our recent water recovery of a submerged VW polo from a brook in south Warwickshire - is the first time we have featured in any industry publication.
I'm very glad they used every photo except the awful one of me - in the dry suite...it wasn't my greatest look! 🤣
I used to spend countless weekends and school holidays with my family's small recovery firm in Coventry - flicking through the AVRO and other industry-centric magazines in the drivers room - drooling over the big trucks (some of which, I still can't drive!), and even bigger jobs - tackled by the largest names in the business.
Now, the little company I started just over two years ago is featuring - with (probably) the biggest job we've handled to date!
A real, full-circle 'pinch me' moment - and one that recognises that the hard work, long hours and stress is paying off - in all sorts of ways.
We are starting to make waves, and progress is being gained day-by-day. And I couldn't do any of it, without my incredible team!
Thank you to AVRO for the opportunity, and for my incredible team for their help on that job - and the many others before and after!
Onto the next...

In this job, we have to watch out for each other...
I get a lot of flack for being seen to throw extra resources at certain jobs. Sometimes, this is warranted..
But the truth is, I'd rather adopt the mindset of a certain neighbouring firm - of 'its there, if it's needed..', rather than scrambling around at the eleventh hour..
We also have a large number of fast roads in our (increasingly large) patch, and jobs on these require an added level of planning and thought.
It's a dangerous game, there's no need to add risk and liability where either really isn't needed or wanted..
And to be truthful, the general public are grossly ignorant to the risks of working roadside. So we, the idiots that choose to work in these dodgy spots - often need to do their thinking for them..
Like this one, Adam providing cover for Sean - one of our roadside techs, on the A38 earlier.
(P.s: not my straightest taper..I know 😂)

At the roundabout, continue straight over..
Adam straight out early doors to this rather deformed and deflated Corsa, which took his sat navs instructions a little too seriously.
Parking for one, please!

At the next turn, continue straight..
Earlier this week, we were tasked to recover this VW golf that had taken a leaf out of Clarksons book - and gone ploughing!
The driver, to his own admission - engaged his right foot before his grey matter...and exited stage right (on a left-hand bend, I might add!) - in spectator fashion!
The golf crashed through a dense hedgerow, nose-dived into a 5ft ditch, and dropped down a 10ft embankment, somersaulting into a farmers field - coming to rest on its roof some 10/15m from the road.
Our customers had specifically requested a hiab for this one. Which - I (still in my 'any excuse to lift anything' phase..) dutifully obliged and attended in
'The Mistress'.
I used a strop to initially lift the vehicle up, out and away from some significant tree stumps it'd become impaled on - before sliding it back along the hedgerow, to align itself with both the hole it had created (rather aggressively) on its way into the field and the irrigation ditch.@
This meant I could then use said ditch it'd pole-vault into and out of, as a natural 'falkrum' - acting as a chock to force the car to roll back onto its wheels as I lifted, using two strops to the far side.
I then lifted the golf up and over both the hedge and the ditch - onto the back of the transporter.
This job just shows how unforgiving country lanes can be, and confidence doesn't always guarantee that things will always go to plan..
Onto the next..

An Incredible escape..
We were asked to recover a vehicle that had been involved in a 'minor' collision in Worcestershire yesterday..
The BMW was noted as being parked on a layby.. however, shortly after receiving the job - we were contacted by - whom advised this was, not exactly accurate..
We arrived to find the car, significantly damaged, and lodged in a selection of trees. - having demolished a large lamp column on his way through for good measure.
The road was closed for us whilst we worked to remove the car from the undergrowth.
The vehicle was then recovered to our nearest storage site, whilst the customers insurance sorts out the mountain of paperwork.
Onto the next..

'The Mistress' making light work of this 'ditched' Dacia..
We were originally told this was in a water-filled ditch.
- Imagine our surprise to find it, buried in someone's garden, in the centre of a housing estate..not a little back lane!
The cars driver had decided to take the scenic route back to it's parking spot - after losing control, crashing through a brick wall, dropping several feet into a neighbouring front garden - coming to rest on a substantial tree stump.
Being a HEV, we decided against dragging the vehicle up and out, risking further battery damage - So, we opted for a quick truck swap into the hiab, and out she came!
- onto the next!
