For the last day of our week celebrating our volunteers and volunteering with Volunteer's Week

Today we are taking a look at our Head of Service, Dr. Alan Jarvis.

"I came to work at Base 25 in 2018 where I still volunteer as well as doing my fulltime role with them. I have overall responsibility for Base 25's operational delivery. I also provide strategic oversight and planning. In addition, I ensure the organisation follows Companies House and Charity Commission regulations and guidance."

"I started volunteering at the age of 13, serving as a warden for Woodlands Camp, and I continued with this until I was 26. Volunteering has given me amazing opportunities to work with a diverse range of people across the country and as far away as Panama."
"It has been a privilege to volunteer, and I was humbled to be awarded an honorary doctorate from Wolverhampton University in 2024 for my voluntary work."
"Volunteering for me sees me doing fund raising and building maintenance for Base 25. Externally I coach and mentor a number of managers from voluntary organisations across the local area. I continue to volunteer because I have always thought it is important to support my community, and I really enjoy volunteering"

Volunteering can open so many doors, and is a great way to give back to the community. If you feel you could volunteer with Base 25, email [email protected] for one of our volunteer packs.

We are getting towards the end of Volunteers' Week but we won't stop celebrating our great volunteers and the exciting possibilities it can lead to.

Today we are cheering Ania.
Ania came to us as a volunteer, and has liked it so much she stayed.

"I always worked in helping professions but couldn't find the right place/job. I heard about Base 25 providing emotional support to young people and got curious about it. I applied for a volunteering role and was straight away inspired by the amazing 3 day training I received. I was volunteering on The Hub where I finally met like-minded people who were more than happy to explain to me how everything works, answer all my questions. I've learnt a lot during my volunteering and that helped me get a job 6 months later when a position opened. I can never look back".

Ania works across many projects within Base 25, including behaviour management, The Safe Project, The Youth Cafe, and in group work. She is also on placement as a counselling student.

We are continuing with our celebration of our volunteers during Volunteers' Week.

Meet Jordan.

Jordan started with Base 25 as a placement student counsellor and has stayed with us as a volunteer.
Jordan says "Since 2024, I have provided therapeutic support to young people through one-to-one counselling sessions, offering a safe, non-judgemental space to explore emotions, relationships, identity, challenges, and personal growth."

"I continue to volunteer in counselling placements and community wellbeing spaces because I believe meaningful human connection can have a real impact. Volunteering allows me to give back, continue learning, and support people who may not otherwise access therapeutic support".

Our volunteer program has so many different avenues to be part of. If you feel you could give some time to Base 25 please email [email protected] for a volunteer pack.

We are taking advantage of Volunteers' Week to celebrate the great volunteers we have at Base 25, and those at Base 25 whose career started with volunteering.

Today we thank Lisa for all everything she does, from supporting the charity shop to group work and many things in between.

Lisa kindly wrote about her time with us.

"....spending time at Base 25 has given me a safe space to regain my confidence, build up my resilience, and get back on my feet. The friendly and caring staff have made me feel accepted and appreciated"

"Base 25 have provided me with the support to return to fulltime employment with new coping skills that will help me maintain a steady job"

Seeing Lisa grow has been lovely for everyone she has worked with.

If you would like to be part of Base 25 as a volunteer just email [email protected] and request a volunteer pack.

This week is Volunteer' Week, we are celebrating our volunteers and those that are here from volunteering.

Volunteering is a great way to gain experience in a chosen field, and here at Base 25 we offer a variety of different opportunities.

This is Ben
Ben has recently joined the Base 25 team as volunteer in our community team.
"I help out in the charity shop, going through each item of clothing to make sure everything is neat, tidy, have price tags and are in good condition."
"I'm hoping that in the future I will be able to be more confident in myself and will be able to thrive better in a work environment and put my all into being someone who is reliable and always ready to help and Base 25 is helping me with that by giving me those opportunities to be reliable, helpful, and increasing my self confidence"

Ben's volunteer work within Base 25 is invaluable, and we love having him as part of our team.

We’re incredibly proud to share some fantastic news!

Base 25 has successfully secured funding from Wolverhampton Council to deliver specialist counselling and therapeutic support for adult victims and survivors of domestic abuse over the next three years.

For 25 years, Base 25 has provided counselling and emotional wellbeing support across the community, supporting people to improve their mental health, resilience, and wellbeing. Over the last 15 years, through our SAFE Project, we have also worked closely with children and young people who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse.

We understand the long-lasting and complex impact domestic abuse can have on individuals and families, which is why we are so pleased to now extend this specialist support to adults within our community.

This funding will enable us to provide vital therapeutic interventions that help survivors heal, rebuild confidence, and move forward safely with the right support around them.

We would like to thank Wolverhampton Council for their continued trust in the work of Base 25 and their ongoing commitment to supporting those affected by domestic abuse. Together, we can continue making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

On Thursday this week, the team at Base 25 proudly took part in Wear It Green Day as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 💚

Every day, our staff work alongside children, young people, and adults across our community to support positive mental health, emotional wellbeing, and resilience. Wear It Green Day gave us a great opportunity to come together, raise awareness, start conversations, and show our support for good mental health for all.

A big thank you to everyone who got involved and helped turn the day green in support of mental health 💚

We’re delighted to welcome our newest volunteers, student counsellors, and social work students to Base 25 💙

Over the last 3 days, this fantastic group has completed our Introduction to the Helping Professions training, covering:

• Working with individuals, groups, and communities
• Skills and theory
• Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
• Safeguarding and professional practice

It has been a pleasure getting to know such a compassionate, thoughtful, and talented group of people, all bringing their own experiences, passion, and commitment to supporting others.

Volunteers play a huge role in the work we do at Base 25. Their time, energy, and dedication help us continue supporting children, young people, and adults across our community every single day.

We are incredibly excited to see the positive impact this group will make as they begin their journey with us — welcome to the Base 25 team! 🙌

🐹Square Pegs become Square Pigs!🐹

We had some lovely little visitors join our Square Pegs group at Base 25, which is centred around supporting young people who have, or are awaiting, a neurodiverse diagnosis. This take on animal therapy is designed to provide a calming environment for all young people, however studies have suggested that the impact on neurodiverse children shows that guinea pigs not only give them feelings of joy and happiness, but also aids in decreasing stress levels and having a long term effect.

Thank you very much Monica, Rachel and Meiko, stay tuned for the next visit!
