BIAB/ Builder gel
I’m sure you’ve heard of it… let’s talk about it

Builder gel is a hard gel made to act as a strong base for your nails. “Gel nails” is gel polish and whilst is designed to be long lasting polish, does not really provide any extra strength for your nails. BIAB (builder in a bottle) is a builder gel made by The Gel Bottle and is my brand of choice.

BIAB can be worn alone as it comes in a variety of neutral shades, or can be added as an extra layer under your colour (+builder gel option on my website).

If you have weak or very flexible nails, or you are looking to grow your nails out and have a little bit more length (like these) builder gel is a great option to add to your regular gel manicure.

I hate to burst the bubble… but your nails are dead. They don’t/ won’t breathe despite you having nothing on them 💀

If you want to prioritise your nail condition the best things you can do are apply cuticle oil and supplement your diet with ingredients like collagen and biotin.

Cuticle oil should be applied twice daily and can be applied even if you have gel on your nails. If your nails are moisturised then they will be more able to flex and less likely to be brittle and snap. Pop a cuticle oil in your handbag, car, bedside table or anywhere else that you’ll see it and remember to use it! I always have a selection of cuticle oil pens at appointment that are available for you to purchase.

Collagen is a protein that is made naturally in the body, but production decreases with age. Taking a collagen supplement has been shown to improve nail growth. Biotin is a B vitamin that is not produced by the body, it has to be eaten. Biotin helps various enzymes metabolize glucose, fatty acids, and the amino acids that build proteins. As a result, a biotin deficiency can lead to hair loss brittle nails, and skin infections.
