A big well done to Lynsay from our Dyce store for coming to the rescue when an elderly customer was struggling to get a taxi home during the bad weather.

Customer service desk colleague Lynsay, who's worked at the store for more than 30 years, decided to drive the elderly customer home after her shift ended so that the customer didn't have to choose between waiting for an hour or so until a cab was available or tackling the journey home on foot.

Lynsay said: "I noticed the lady trying to book a taxi. She pulled out a hand-written note from her pocket that had her address jotted down, but she didn’t seem to be having any luck. She was still trying to book a taxi as I was about to clock off, so I went up to her and asked if she needed any help. When she explained that taxis were going to take over an hour to arrive, I couldn’t believe it! It was really bad weather that night so there must’ve been high demand for them. It was such a dark, cold night, there’s just no way I would’ve left her to wait over an hour or to attempt walking home when I was heading that way anyway. I didn’t think twice about it – I would hate to think of my mum standing in that situation without anyone offering to help her."

The store's community champion Fiona said: “We are all so proud of how kind Lynsay has been to the lady. Lynsay really is a fantastic asset to our team and we’re thankful to have such good-hearted and caring colleagues amongst us.”

When a customer's mobility scooter broke down in our Northampton Thornton supermarket, colleagues Harry and Aaron came to the rescue and pushed him and his groceries home themselves.

Harry, who's 22, said: "The gentleman had already done his shopping when the scooter just stopped working; I don't know what was the matter with it. He only lived about ten minutes away so Aaron and I pushed him home with the gentleman sat in it steering and doing the brakes. It was quite heavy, but we were fine. We made sure he got safely home before heading back to the store. The gentleman was very grateful for our help."

Both Harry and 21-year-old Aaron have been nominated for Asda service superstar awards for their kindness. Store manager Nicola said: "We are very proud of them both. They are always willing to help anyone."

Lewis loves the work experience he's doing at Asda Dundonald – and the store's community champion Sharon who arranged it for him says his confidence has soared since he started in October.

Sharon arranged the placement with Four G Day Opportunities Service, a locally-based service for young adults with learning disabilities, and quickly spotted that Lewis, who's autistic, has a talent for tidying and organisation. She said: “Over time I’ve really seen Lewis’ confidence grow. The store always looks incredible when he’s been in. He’s a great addition to the team.”

Lewis said: "I like working with Sharon and having a yarn with Henry, the security section leader, at the end of my shift. I like trying new things like home shopping, returns and being on the till.” Lewis’ mum, who's also called Sharon, said: “Asda has given Lewis a great opportunity of work experience and he has been encouraged to have a go at different tasks and duties. His favourite job is stacking the shelves, allowing him to demonstrate his organisational skills – and he’s also been enjoying working on the tills, which has been great for bettering his social interaction and communication abilities. It’s been a real confidence boost for him.”

We're supporting our Tickled Pink charity partner Breast Cancer Now in their call for a national breast screening awareness campaign.

They say that despite screenings finding most breast cancers early when survival is almost 100% not enough eligible women in England are attending a screening. It's why we're proud to welcome mobile NHS breast cancer screening units in the car parks of many of our stores across the country, making it easier and more convenient for more women.

Tracey, who works at our St Austell store, knows first-hand the importance of breast screening appointments after attending one in a unit in the store's car park meant she got an early diagnosis of breast cancer. She said: “I would encourage everyone to attend their mammogram appointment; it probably saved my life. I am so grateful that I attended my screening as my breast cancer was caught early, when I couldn’t feel the lumps.”

We've teamed up with Quaker Oats UK to offer a free bowl of porridge and a hot drink to customers at 205 of our stores with an Asda Café, including Asda Swindon Haydon. The new free offer is available to customers of all ages at stores with an Asda Café until March 20.

Jane, who set up the club to help bring members of the local community together, said: "It's such a brilliant offer and our club members love it. We started out with six members and now we have about 20 to 25 people each week. It's a lovely little group. It's great for people's wellbeing to get out and have a chat and a number of the members have become good friends and meet up and do things on other days too."

Maiija, who's 82 and pictured on the left, goes most weeks to the club. She said: "It really is lovely here and Jane is so lovely – she really looks after us. They are a very friendly lot. I've got to know a lot of different people and we have become good friends. We all push our tables together and we have a good chat about all sorts of things. The free porridge is great. I've just had one and it was lovely."

Phil is the toast of our Blackpool store after finding a gold wedding ring belonging to a customer who's been married for more than 60 years.

Cleaning colleague Phil was sweeping under one of the chillers when the ring '"just flew right out" at him. He picked it up and handed it to security colleague Nigel who had taken a phone call from a very upset lady the previous evening reporting it missing.

Nigel said: "It must have just fallen off while she was in shopping. She didn't notice it was missing until she got home. I had a good look round but couldn't find it, but thankfully Phil managed to the next morning. It was a real piece of luck. He was so pleased that he'd found it. I phoned the lady to say we'd found it and she was very emotional. Her husband came in to pick it and and has so chuffed and very thankful."

The lady wrote to the store to thank Phil and the team, saying: "You will never know how much finding my wedding ring meant to me. My whole life fell apart, but you made me live again. Thank you, thank you, God bless you."

Phil, who's 60, said: "I believe in fate and I feel I was meant to find it. I'm just pleased I made someone's day."

Store manager Will said: "Phil's a great lad and very humble. He was just so pleased that he helped. This was a clearly emotional situation for the lady that thankfully ended in happiness."

A very happy 103rd birthday to former Spitfire engineer Eddie.

When community champion Diane from our Ashford store found out that he was celebrating his big day she wanted to make sure he did it in style. She arranged a special Asda birthday cake with his photo on, balloons and a card from herself and one from everyone at the store too – plus a 'birthday boy' badge!

Diane said: "My daughter Lucy's mother-in-law Joanne works at Singleton Nursing Home where Eddie is a resident and when I found out about his birthday I just had to do something. It's not every day you turn 103! Eddie was amazing and so grateful for everything. He told me he used to repair Spitfires during the Second World War and that he knew his way around the plane's engine. He was very talkative. I went to see him and said happy birthday to him a day before his special day so he wasn't too overwhelmed on the actual day as he was having family attend and also members of the Royal British Legion. He's a lovely man and definitely doesn't look 103 at all."

Michelle, who's well-being manager at the home, said: "The gesture from Di and Asda was so lovely, it made his day. We've had children from local schools come down to see him too and so far he's had 236 birthday cards from local people. He's a lovely man and so active – he's helped to bake cakes recently and also plant bulbs."

Sarah said: "Edie's a lovely little girl who comes into store every Friday. Edie loves to play shops and wants Asda shopping toys for her birthday."

Happy Valentine's Day to couples everywhere – like Scott and Charlie who fell in love working together at our Chorley store.

Service colleague Charlie, who's 28, and 30-year-old home shopping section leader Scott, had worked together for six years before they started dating in 2021 and got married in Cyprus a year later. Charlie said: "Scott's just so kind and considerate. He is a really lovely guy who compliments me every day. He is a dream." The couple have four children between them – Eliza, who's 12, Reggie, aged 10, and eight-year-olds Freddie and Jack. They plan to enjoy an Asda Valentine's Day meal deal when the children have gone to bed and then later in the week will go out for an Italian meal and to watch the Bob Marley biopic together.

The store's community champion Lucia says all their colleagues are so happy for them: "They're such a lovely couple and the story of how they met at work, fell in love and went on to marry is so romantic. I hope they both have a fabulous Valentines Day!"

Mum Hannah has posted on Facebook to thank "amazing" checkouts colleague Darren from our South Woodham Ferrers store for cheering up her toddler Teddy when he was getting tired and upset.

Hannah and Teddy, who's two next month, live five minutes from the store and Hannah pops in daily. On this particular visit Teddy was getting upset, so Darren gave him a wave and played hide and seek behind his checkout – transforming Teddy's mood. Hannah was so touched by Darren's kindness that she posted on the South Woodham Ferrers Facebook group, saying: "He completely turned the day around by showing kindness. He is amazing."

Lots of people commented on her post to praise Darren, with comments like: "I love being served by him. He is always so cheery and chatty. Always makes us laugh," "You’re a total legend and make everyone smile!" and "Well done Darren, he definitely is lovely."

Darren's been nominated for an Asda service superstar award by store service leader Barbara, who said: "Darren is such a friendly and chatty person. He's so bubbly and he has people queuing to go to his till. He treats everyone as if they're his best mate."

Twenty-seven-year-old Shelley, who has Down Syndrome, has soared in confidence since she started doing work experience at our Sittingbourne store – and always leaves with a big beaming smile on her face.

Shelley is supported by the Fenner Frost Foundation, which helps adults with learning disabilities to forge links within the local community. They work closely with our Sittingbourne store's community champion Claire, who helped arrange Shelley's work experience. She visits the store one afternoon a week and works alongside Claire and colleague Diane, pictured, on our George, GM and health and beauty departments.

Shelley's mum, Katie, said: "Her confidence has really grown since she started working there. She absolutely loves working at Asda. She comes home extremely happy because she feels like she's doing proper work. Everyone at the store are brilliant with her. They really look after her and include her and make her feel that she's part of the team. We're just so grateful that the Foundation and Asda have given her this amazing opportunity." Claire said: "Shelley's a real asset to our store and is very popular both with colleagues and customers. She's a wonderful young lady who has the biggest smile, the cheekiest laugh and a huge zest to learn both shop floor and people skills."

Delivery driver Paul from our Minworth store felt something "wasn't quite right" when he didn't get an answer when he called at the home of one of our older customers.

Paul was worried when the lady didn't reply when he rang the ball and shouted through her letterbox. And when he spotted unopened post on the floor and full bottles of milk on her doorstep he alerted her neighbours, who in turn phoned 999 for an ambulance. The lady, from Sutton Coldfield, had suffered a stroke and, after been checked out by paramedics, was taken to hospital for treatment. She's now recovering in a stroke rehabilitation unit.

Paul said: "I just knew something wasn't right so I raised the alarm, and I'm so glad I did. It's so important in this day and age that people take the time our to help one another." James, the store's customer trading manager, nominated Paul for an Asda service superstar award for his actions. He said: "Well done Paul, you are a superstar. Your swift actions made sure the customer got the care and attention she needed very quickly. We are all proud of you."

We've teamed up with Quaker Oats UK to offer a free bowl of porridge and a free hot drink to customers at 205 of our stores with an Asda Café.

The new free offer starts on February 7 and is available to customers of all ages at stores with an Asda Café for the next six weeks. It's the fourth initiative now available at our cafes to help customers with the cost of living, joining our Kids Eat for £1 offer, the over 60’s £1 Winter Warmers soup and a roll offer, and the Community Cuppa offer, which provides community groups meeting space later in the day with a free hot drink.

Gemma Rutter, Asda Cafe & Partnerships Buying Manager, said: “It’s great to be partnering with Quaker to offer a free bowl of porridge in all of our Asda Cafés. We know that post-Christmas, along with the cold weather, customers feel an additional strain on household budgets as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income. We hope this initiative will prove impactful across the winter months for those who need it most." Terms and conditions apply.

When a 13-year-old schoolboy with Type One diabetes realised he didn't have enough money for his lunch at our Rushden store, our colleague Manisha stepped in and paid for it out of her own money.

The boy was getting worried as his blood sugar levels were getting low, so service section leader Manisha, who's a qualified nurse, bought him a sandwich, a drink and some snacks to get his sugar levels back up. She then sat with him in the cafe until he was feeling better and able to be go home. The boy's mother phoned the store to thank Manisha for her kindness, saying that she hadn't realised her son's school was finishing early on that day and that they weren't serving lunch.

Manisha said: "The boy comes in every day and knows Asda well. I said to him that if he didn't have the money I'd buy the food for him; I didn't want it back. I'm a qualified nurse too, so caring is in my blood."

Former X Factor contestant and professional singer Carol loves to put smiles on customers' faces at our Alsager supermarket with her amazing singing voice and friendly personality.

Carol often sings in the store's foyer to raise money for our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign – belting out popular songs from artists like Tina Turner and Amy Winehouse and even singing opera. She was on The X Factor alongside Olly Murs and Joe McElderry, and once sang at a birthday party for Princess Margaret. She's so well-known for her lovely voice that colleagues and customers at the store call her Singing Carol on Tills.

She said: "Customers come in and say 'go on give us a song' and I just sing to them. I'll say what's your favourite and I'll just burst it out. Not a shift goes by without me singing. I like the fact that I can be myself at work. It makes customers happy, and me happy. I'm a hard worker, but I like to have fun too. Customers say I make their day, which is nice."

Store manager Gary said: "Carol will go above and beyond for our customers and always makes customers and colleagues smile with her amazing singing voice." Read her story here: https://bit.ly/3HG5awu

A huge thank you to Jackie from our Boston store who went out of her way to help a recently bereaved customer who got a bit overwhelmed on her first shopping trip for six months following the death of her husband.

The lady's dog had also recently died, and she'd moved house too, so emotions caught up with her in the store until Jackie stepped in to help. Adele said: "Jackie stopped to help her, made sure she got a drink that she wanted and waited with her until she felt calmer and able to carry on with her shopping trip. All the time she was talking to her, reassuring her that everything was fine and we were all here to help her. The customer said that it may not seem like a lot to most people but Jackie's kindness helped her to restore a little bit of faith into her heart. Thanks to Jackie supporting her, the lady felt strong enough to carry on with her shopping. You never know what a little kindness can mean to someone."

Home shopping colleague Jackie, who's worked at the store for 38 years, said: "It's especially important to help other people get through their day - particularly when they're having a 'down day'. It's an absolute delight to know that we can have a positive impact on somebody's day through the simplest of actions."
