A little personal milestone...

When I first qualified as a driving instructor, my pass rate often hovered around 50%. If I'm honest, it knocked my confidence at times.

This year has been something really special. My pass rate has climbed to over 80%, with students averaging very few driving faults, and I couldn't be prouder.

Is it because I've had some brilliant students? Definitely. Have I become more experienced and perhaps raised my own standards of when someone is truly test-ready? I think so too. Hopefully, I've become a better instructor along the way.

I spend a lot of time celebrating my students' successes (and rightly so!), but today I'm taking a moment to appreciate how far I've come as well. Thank you to everyone who's trusted me to help them learn to drive.

I'm now taking a couple of weeks away and heading off on an EV-powered road trip to the Alps and Mont Ventoux. Once I'm there, I'll be swapping four wheels for two and enjoying what is clearly the superior way to travel. 🚴⛰️

I'll still keep an eye on messages when I can, but replies may be a little slower than usual. See you all in a couple of weeks!

Massive congratulations to Oliver, who passed his driving test today with zero driving faults! 👏

The examiner described it as "an outstanding drive," praising his awareness of everything happening around him. Feedback doesn't get much better than that.

Over the course of his lessons we've chatted about everything from his eclectic music taste and films to the challenge of mastering barre chords on the guitar. He's been a genuine pleasure to teach.

Perhaps the nicest part of today was hearing him say that he used to hate the idea of driving, but now he genuinely enjoys it. That's a pretty great journey to have made.

Very pleased to now be able to offer lessons using adapted driving controls for people with a range of physical disabilities and mobility requirements.

My car is now fitted with:
• Steering ball
• Steering aid with secondary controls for indicators and other functions
• Pull/push hand controls
• Left foot accelerator

Every learner deserves the opportunity to gain independence and confidence on the road, and I’m proud to be able to make driving more accessible to more people across Swindon and the surrounding area.
