Lots of new beginner students starting with us this term. This is a lovely example of the first set of projects our beginners work on - a scissor pouch, pin book and pin cushion. Small, quick projects to build confidence but also useful items that they will use in their sewing kits.
Many of our students have taken their sscissor pouches off to university with them, having started their classes here in primary school!

I have had so many compliments about this fabric! My favourite season to sew for is Summer as there are so many fun projects from beach bags to dresses.
This is a self drafted pattern, making a lovely roomy beach bag. I've used this pattern for loads of projects and this time I quilted the fabric to give it some stability.
Outside fabric gifted printed cotton from . Pocket and lining fabric also from
Over Easter I had some time to start working on some new project ideas for this term.
First up is this shirt, ideal for the summer, hacked from the The Hackney Shirt pattern.

This week has been tough. I was going to post about International Women's Day and then we found out that the absolute Queen and Legend of Eileen Baker had sadly died.
Eileen was such an amazing women. She welcomed me into the wardrobe department with a stern hand and a warm smile. She gave me the opportunity to make costumes and be in my happy place rummaging around in the vast rails of the TTC costume department all those years ago.
Without Eileen both TTC and YAT would have been a different place. She was endlessly kind hearted and LOVED a gossip. She was always part of the party (see her in my kitchen at a cast party!) She ignited my love for costume and I will always be grateful to her for that. 💔
Action packed two days of community teaching with this week.
Can you believe we even had visitors come all the way from Japan this year, just to experience our London Repair Week workshops!
This week we focused on embroidery skills and basic patching and mending techniques.
I firmly believe that the foundation of repair is having a good understanding of basic sewing skills. Having the confidence to pick up the needle to repair a tear, sew back on the button, or shorten the hem is all you need to start your journey!
As always thank you so much to the team at westfields Primark, they are amazing! Always so welcoming, happy to have me and so positive! Massive shout out to the security team, always such a joy to work with!
More amazing projects coming out if the classes this week! Starting off with the fantastic design and make projects from our lunchtime clubs.
This week is London Repair Week and I truly belive that the foundation to a lifelong relationship with repairing your clothes is having a good understanding of basic hand sewing and the confidence to give it a go!
Week after week our children go home with more confidence to alter, adapt and fix their own clothes.
Our adult classes are growing again too, the next two evening course are sold out but we have a daytime class starting today with space or watch this space for more dates in June to be released soon!
