The Prescriptive Manicure
There’s so much science and technique behind a successful nail enhancement. It’s taken me 17 years in the beauty industry to truly understand and refine what I do today - and I’m still learning. This industry is constantly evolving, and staying up to date with the latest techniques and products is essential. Knowledge really is power.
“Prescriptive manicure” might sound like a new term, but in reality, every good nail technician should be tailoring treatments to suit both your natural nails and your lifestyle.
With the right application and proper aftercare, your nails should last 3+ weeks. Of course, this can vary - things like using your nails as tools or skipping gloves when washing up or gardening will affect longevity. But that’s always the goal.
For example, if you’ve booked builder gel but I feel hard gel would better suit your nails and lifestyle, I’ll always recommend and use what’s best for you.
Lately, I’ve seen a lot of work that suggests inexperience or poor-quality products:
- Inexperienced techs = poor prep leading to premature lifting
- Poor products = lifting, allergens, and bad breakages (especially with acrylics)
Choose your nail technician wisely - and don’t be afraid to ask questions!

We’re overjoyed to finally share the safe arrival of our beautiful girl, Bonnie Rose Drury 🥰
13/02/2026 at 7:05am
Weighing 8lbs 9oz
After keeping us waiting until 42+2 weeks 🙈, she made a very speedy entrance — a two-hour labour, a quick ambulance ride, and she arrived just 10 minutes after we reached the hospital 🙈
We are completely in love 💕

If I was your nail tech in 2016 😃😂
I know there’s are going to be some questions surrounding gel polish after the ban on TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide) that recently came in to place in the EU
Although it is not yet illegal to buy and use in the UK most gel nail products have already made the change to TPO-L (Ethyl Trimethylbenzoyl Phenylphosphinate) ahead of the EU change.
None of the products that we use in the salon contain TPO - only TPO-L
Unfortunately this is another scare monger tactic from the news and social media 🤦🏼♀️

This Christmas marks our 10th year in buisiness, Tiffany opened Perfectly Polished on the 1st December 2014 and then Jayne joined 4 years later. Neither of us could imagine doing anything else now and we are so grateful to you for choosing us. We have such a lovely bunch of ladies most of whom we are lucky enough to call friends.
We will now be taking annual leave until the 4th January so please be careful opening those boxes tomorrow, we don’t want any broken nails 🤣🙈
P.S I always forget to take pictures so here’s a set that I did back in 2020! Long encapsulated acrylics! 😍
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year 🥳
