🎶 Will there be free live music at the Buttermarket this year?
It's a question we've been asked a lot over the past few weeks.
The honest answer is... we don't know.
For the first time in the festival's 14-year history, rising costs combined with the loss of grant funding and sponsorship support, have left the future of this free music programme in doubt.
But we're not ready to give up just yet.
Today, we're launching a community Crowdfunder to see if we can bring free live music to the Buttermarket on Sunday 30 and Bank Holiday Monday 31 August.
We need to raise a minimum of £8,000 to make it happen; to cover artist fees, venue hire, road closures, medical cover, sound equipment and event infrastructure.
If you've ever enjoyed the atmosphere at the Buttermarket, discovered a new artist, danced in the sunshine, or simply believe live music should be accessible to everyone, we'd be incredibly grateful for your support.
Every donation, large or small, will help.
❤️ Please take a moment to read our story and support the campaign if you can. The Crowdfunder will only be open for 4 weeks so that we can work with what we collectively manage to raise.
https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/buttermarket2026
Let's see if together we can bring free music to the Buttermarket.

🎬Our Land [12A]
Orban Wallace’s superb documentary follows the right-to-roam movement, a campaign group with a simple, reasonable aim: to give walkers in England and Wales the same rights that people have in Scotland. There, walkers have the right to temporary, non-motorised access - which is to say walking, cycling and camping, carried out responsibly - to most land, public or private. The film interviews landowners such as Francis Fulford, who has long been the media’s favourite outspoken reactionary toff. There are other, more thoughtful contributors, including Hugh Inge-Innes-Lillingston, who cheerfully admits how silly his name is, and is open to developing new ideas about managed access
