It's been a crazy few weeks setting up for a trade show for a client. Normally I only do the showreels, but I allowed myself to be roped into the whole stand design to support as I had previous experience. What I hadn't done before was design, build and brand a Scalextric set. It was lots of fun, bit quite fiddly wrapping the mini cars (all 17 of them)!

You know it's January when you receive three Investor Pitch enquiries in one evening... I love that I get to work with companies aiming for the stars with a great new business idea.

Sometimes I really HATE my job! Don't get me wrong, I love it a lot of the time, but there are definite HATE moments.

What causes the HATE factor?... It's cortisol - the stress hormone, I experience high levels of stress due to some of the slides I have to work on. Factors like, "what does this graph mean", "what is this slide trying to tell me", "there are too many variables on the screen at once"! These factors and many more make my body release cortisol which makes me stressed and irritable. And, if it's happening to me, when I have time and space to digest the information, imagine what it's doing to the poor audience trying to listen and digest it all at the same time? In short, it's it's making the audience stressed and irritable. If you're trying to sell to that audience you're making it a lot harder!

At Slide Deck we know all about cortisol... and how to prevent its release. We throw in a touch of cortisol at the start, just to get the audience's attention and get them to take notice, then we balance it up with lots of lovely oxytocin, the hormone that makes you feel warm, fuzzy and nurtured (it's also the hormone released during sexual activity and childbirth!).

So, creating a winning presentation isn't just visual, it's chemical! Don't underestimate the power of your slides to stress out or turn on your audience!

Work in action... A speaker deck for a grocery conference in Las Vegas. Our Swedish client are at the forefront of e-groceries and we've had a busy time getting this deck just right. It is super simple and slick, so not to draw focus away from the speaker.

Now on to their new look sales deck!

99 slides in 4 days! That's a huge amount of infographics, icons, images, mindmaps and animations. This is a training deck and each slide has been carefully designed to illustrate the theory behind it and embed the understanding. When working on material like this we have to pretty much learn it ourselves, it means we can design more effective slides and we know where the tricky pieces of theory are. It's like a big puzzle that we unravel!

We’ve also made the best use of the client's branding. This is set to go over to the client Monday for review! Fingers crossed we are on the right track!

We've seen a massive uplift in webinar slide decks... which means a lot more of us must be booking on to webinars. So, what do you like to see on a webinar slide deck... Do you like a slide deck at all, or would you prefer to see the face of the presenter.

Here's an animation we did earlier this year. To keep the costs down the animation was created in powerpoint and exported as an mp4, the audio files were added in Camtasia. This shows the fun you can have with powerpoint.

Getting your sales pitch deck just right is a combination of structure and story telling, with great design and animations that build ideas piece by piece.

This is now a few years old, but a great example.
