Crafted from solid ash, the Bellingdon extending dining table is designed for the rhythms of everyday life, from quiet mornings with the papers to lively gatherings with family and friends.

Its smooth, elegant profile and distinctive angled legs carry the hallmarks of ercol’s design heritage, while the extending mechanism allows the table to move effortlessly from seating six to eight when extra guests gather around.

Made by skilled craftspeople in our Buckinghamshire factory, Bellingdon is shown here with the Ashridge chair. Both available exclusively for John Lewis.

Sylva Side Table

Each side table is hand-finished in a white pigment oil, to protect the timber while allowing the natural colour from pale white to olive tones, to remain visible. This finish enhances both durability and character, making the piece a distinctive addition to the home.

"I was drawn to Sylva for its advocacy of home-grown timber and its commitment to situating craft within wider conversations around forestry, land use, and regenerative design - areas I see as essential to the future of furniture making." Molly, Sylva Foundation Professional Student.

I am merely the custodian of the furniture.

Crafted with care and built with longevity in mind, many ercol pieces are passed from one generation to the next, gathering stories along the way.

The Chairmakers Chair is a lasting example. Originally designed by our founder in the mid-century period, it remains in production today and is still made in our Buckinghamshire factory using many of the same techniques employed when it was first introduced.

Designed to be lived with, cared for and handed on, each piece becomes part of a longer story.

Meet Simon, a valued member of the ercol team since April 1985.

Starting as a labourer before moving into polishing, Simon has spent decades mastering the craft, becoming one of the specialists responsible for applying the final topcoat — one of the most important stages in the finishing process.

Having worked across multiple departments over the years, Simon’s knowledge and versatility reflect the craftsmanship and dedication that sit at the heart of ercol. From spraying and sealing to inspections throughout production, no two days are ever the same.

Thank you, Simon, for the years of skill, care and commitment to the craft.

Simon also shared how furniture making became a career where he could truly excel, despite struggling with dyslexia throughout his life — a reminder that craftsmanship comes in many forms.

The Sylva bedside cabinet combines practical design with a smooth tactile finish. Featuring a single drawer and a functional galleried top, offering both storage and security for everyday items. Its minimalist aesthetic brings a sense of calm and considered simplicity to the bedroom.

Produced in batches by students at Sylva Wood School, students gained valuable experience in professional practice and the standards of quality craftsmanship.

"The Sylva bedside cabinet for Ercol was one of my favourite pieces to work on, made from (Grown in Britain) Ash, it’s a stunning design. The process enabled me to bring together multiple techniques and skills I had developed throughout the course." Nicola, Sylva Foundation Professional Student

Our designs might have changed but the quality remains. ercol, since 1920.

The Windsor chair has evolved over time, but only where it needed to. Proportions have shifted subtly, ergonomics refined, and dimensions adjusted to suit the way we live today, small changes that make a familiar form feel just right.

What has not changed is how it is made. Steam bending continues to shape the curves, timber is still selected with care, and each chair is assembled by hand. CNC technology now supports the process, bringing precision where it is useful, but never replacing the skill, judgement and touch of the maker.

A considered purchase

Our products are not, in general, impulse buys. Our customers recognise and appreciate the time, skill and care that goes into every part of the design and making process and are prepared, as we are, to invest in them. They also understand that our products are immune to the whims of fashion: their timeless looks and lasting integrity means they can be used, enjoyed and admired for decades.

Buying ercol may not always be a quick decision. But it is always a wise one.

As spring comes into full bloom, our bedroom promotion is nearing its end. Monday the 25th May is the final opportunity to choose pieces designed to last.

Crafted from solid oak and oak veneers, the Teramo wardrobe offers generous storage, with ample hanging space and a deep drawer below for everyday essentials.

Finished in a clear matt lacquer to protect and reveal the natural beauty of the timber, Teramo is made to be used, and relied upon, for years to come.

ercol is best known for its wood furniture, and for chairs in particular, but the same design intent runs through our upholstery.

The Sandford sofa reflects that approach. Scroll arms and gently curved legs bring a sense of refinement, while the solid ash frame provides a clear connection to our heritage in timber furniture.

Available in both static and motion options - the motion version offers a smooth, integrated footrest with a discreet USB-C port, while maintaining the same considered design and attention to detail throughout.

Available in a wide choice of fabrics from the Casa and Universal collections.
