We’ve loved supporting Belhaven Pubs over the past year with fire risk assessments across their fantastic pubs throughout Scotland.

Today, we were back at The Argosy following its recent refurbishment — and it was brilliant to see the place buzzing again!
The pub was packed this afternoon as it reopened its doors, welcoming back those dedicated regulars who’ve clearly missed their local over the past few weeks.

Well done to the Argosy team on a great relaunch — 🍻👏

We’ve had the pleasure of supporting the Osprey Group for a number of years now with their fire and health & safety needs across their hospitality portfolio.

One of their venues — a beautiful but once slightly tired manor house in rural Cumbria — has undergone an incredible transformation. During our annual audits this week, it was fantastic to see the investment, care, and attention that’s gone into creating a modern, stylish wedding and function venue, all while retaining the original charm and character of the property.

Amazing work from the Osprey team — it’s always a pleasure to see the progress each time I visit! 👏

How sad.
Having managed historic properties for many years, I am too familiar on how difficult it is to comply with modern fire standards in buildings of this significance.
Ultimately, you have little choice but to "accept" a certain degree of risk.

In most cases, historic buildings have notable conservation assets such as hand painted ceilings or ornamental coving, most of which date back hundreds of years, painstakingly preserved to allow visitors to enjoy them for many more years.

Slapping 30 minute fire board on these ceilings will destroy those efforts and diminish the prestigious value the property holds.
With that said, if a fire takes hold of the building, it has little or no protection and the building can be lost in a matter of minutes.

Fire Prevention is absolute key in these properties!

Firefighters will no longer travel to all automatic alarms 11/01/2022

Coming into effect from April 2023, the legal responsibility for dealing with an automatic fire alarm lies with the duty holder of the property.

This means the UK fire and rescue service will now seek confirmation of a fire before attending site, including those premises with linked fire systems to receiving centres and fire stations.

It is crucial that your business fire safety policy & procedures are reviewed to that effect.

Get in touch with CK Risk Solutions for immediate and ongoing support.

Firefighters will no longer travel to all automatic alarms The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it makes around 57,000 unnecessary blue light journeys a year to investigate false alarms.
