What are Nail Contra-Indications? 💅

Contra-indications are conditions that can make a nail service unsafe or unsuitable—and spotting them is a key part of being a responsible professional.

🚩 Common nail contra-indications include:
• Fungal infections (yellowing, thickened nails, crumbling edges)
• Bacterial infections (green or black discolouration)
• Open wounds or cuts around the nail
• Severe inflammation, redness, or swelling
• Nail plate separation (onycholysis)
• Warts or unusual growths

🔍 How to identify them:
Take a close look before you begin—check colour, texture, shape, and the surrounding skin. Ask your client about pain, sensitivity, or recent injuries. If something looks off, trust your instincts.

⚠️ When in doubt, don’t treat.
It’s always better to politely refuse the service and recommend they seek medical advice than risk worsening a condition.
