You've propagated heard it before: move fast, break things, scale aggressively. It's become the default focus for ambitious businesses, even funding bodies and government support agencies push growth onto businesses with no context or understanding about what is best for that business.
But here's what we donât normally talk about: the businesses that move too fast often break their team, their culture, and their margins in the process.
I've worked with founders who grew double sometimes triple the revenue in a couple of years or even a year. The reality is they nearly lost everything because the systems and culture couldn't handle it. Teams burned out. Quality dropped. Customers noticed. Profit disappeared.
The uncomfortable truth? Sustainable growth is less interesting than hypergrowth. It doesn't make for exciting LinkedIn posts or investor pitches. But it's the difference between a business that thrives and one that survives on fumes, despite whatâs happening not because of whatâs happening.
Real growth is aligned growth. It's is understanding your numbers, knowing your limits, and expanding deliberatelyânot desperately or out of control.
What would change in your business if you prioritised sustainability over speed?

The team knows what's broken or some really simple fixes. They're usually just waiting for permission to say it or sadly sometimes they have shared it but it is ignored.
I've done audits across sports organisations, retail shops, manufacturing operations, and healthcare services. Every single time, when I talk to the team separately from the leadership, I hear things the owner has no idea about and in some cases is not interested in.
The driver is not because the team doesn't want to tell them. Usually because they've tried, or they think it's not their place, or they're worried about the consequences.
The owner wants to think everything's fine. The team is quietly frustrated.
This gapâbetween what leadership thinks is happening and what's actually happeningâis where most problems hide.
A good diagnostic brings that to the surface. Not to blame anyone. But because you can't fix what you don't know about and you certainly can't fix something you won't acknowledge.

It's lonely sometimes, running a business on your own.
Not always. But enough that it matters.
That's why the people in your corner matter more than you might think. Not the ones who tell you what you want to hear. The ones who challenge you when necessary, who have your back regardless of the outcome, who you can be honest with about how tough it actually is.
Those people change everything.
I've worked with founders who had all the right strategy, all the right numbers, but felt completely isolated in the process. The moment they built a real circleâtrusted advisors, peers who got it, people they could be vulnerable withâeverything shifted.
It wasn't the strategy that changed but the environment they operated in and the support they surrounded themselves with.
If you're building something or facing a new challenge, make sure you're not doing it alone.

Growth isnât about guesswork
Ever feel like your business is running on gut instinct, not clear direction? Most owners doâuntil the cracks start to show: missed targets, wasted time, and a team thatâs busy but not productive.
Often sustainable progress comes from seeing the full picture, not just the numbers on a spreadsheet. That means getting under the surface, spotting the bottlenecks, and acting fastâbefore small issues become big ones.
Curious where your business is leaking time or money? Letâs talk. Iâll show you how to turn uncertainty into actionâno jargon, just results. đ

Not every strategy session needs a boardroomâor even a decent coffee! Sometimes it's just me, a laptop, and whatever table I can find.
This is the real face of building a business: working wherever and whenever focus strikes, showing up for clients in whatever way works. It might not be glamorous, but it's honest, and that's how I like it.
