What a fantastic evening celebrating Say Something Nice Day!
We enjoyed two excellent speeches. Alan shared great insights on how to develop a keynote speech, along with a hilarious story highlighting the risks of using scratch cards as employee rewards! Brenda followed with an inspiring speech on the art of giving compliments and great practical tips.
The compliment theme continued with some wonderful Table Topics from Maria, focused on giving praise and recognising others. Congratulations to Latisha, who won Best Table Topic! Table Topics are the Toastmasters way of practising impromptu speaking, and we're delighted that she has joined Perth Toastmasters.
A special thank you to Phil, who managed the entire meeting brilliantly. Phil got us to work in pairs, complimenting each other—something that doesn't come naturally to many of us, but which created a positive vibe throughout the evening.
If you'd like to hear some excellent examples of Toastmasters storytelling skills, tune in to the CareSound Radio podcast, where Daksha, Phil and Alan from Perth Toastmasters share some wonderful stories. https://www.mixcloud.com/CareSoundRadio/talkback-the-toastmasters-takeover/

Most important things first — we had delicious homemade shortbread kindly provided by our president Brenda! 😋
Brenda also chaired the meeting and kept everything running smoothly.
Claire from Dundee TM gave a wonderful speech on dog nutrition, full of useful insights and delivered brilliantly. 🐶
Caroline explained how to end a speech effectively, and the Table Topics session, where members practise thinking and speaking on the spot, was pretty tough this week! The theme was “Mistakes and Luck”.
Daksha took the win with a hilarious story about three types of bird — chicken, duck… and ham?? 🤣 Surely a mistake there somewhere!
Another enjoyable and entertaining meeting with plenty of laughs and learning along the way.

What a fantastic evening at the Perth Toastmasters open night! 🎤
We welcomed so many great guests, and Minnie and Claire truly stole the show with an engaging speech and an impressive demonstration of dog training — including how to prepare your dog for situations like vet visits and injections. 🐾
Phil shared his inspiring Toastmasters journey, opening up about how, for his first six weeks, he was so nervous he couldn’t speak and kept his eyes on the floor — a great reminder of how confidence can grow with time and support.
There were plenty of laughs as guests bravely took part in impromptu speaking, tackling fun topics like favourite things — from animals (horses and dogs!) to dream holidays like Japan, and even favourite cars.
A big thank you to Brenda for the delicious homemade brownies — they went down a treat! 🍫
Our next meeting is on 4th May — come along and give it a go, you’ll be very welcome! 😊

🎤 Great day for Perth Toastmasters at the Area 33 Contest in Linlithgow!
Perth Toastmasters was proudly represented at the TM Area 33 contest in Linlithgow, where three contests were held.
A special congratulations to our President, Brenda, who achieved fantastic results in a very competitive field:
🥈 2nd place – International Speech
🥈 2nd place – Table Topics
🥉 3rd place – Evaluation
It was a very tight field and Brenda delivered a great speech called Ubuntu translation
“I am because we are.”
We’re incredibly proud of her performance and of how well Perth Toastmasters was represented.
Well done, Brenda! 👏
The next Perth TM meeting is Monday at 7pm at the National Christian Outreach Centre Annex. Would you like to improve your speaking or leadership skills then get in contact and come along

A great evening at the Perth Toastmasters meeting!
Maliki led a fantastic Table Topics session all about names, which had everyone thinking — and speaking — on the spot. We learned a few fun surprises along the way, including one member confessing that their nickname is “Bones”… just like in Star Trek!
Phil then guided us through a thoughtful review of what our club is doing well and where we can continue to improve. It’s always valuable to pause, reflect, and see how we grow together as a club.
Caroline shared some great insights on the power of body language in a speech, based on a Toastmasters training session delivered at NCR Dundee. A good reminder that our hands, posture, movement, and facial expressions can be just as powerful as the words we say.
And of course, no meeting would be complete without a few extras — some very lovely biscuits and a special little visitor, Rosie the dog, who brought plenty of smiles to the room.
Here are a few photos from a warm, lively, and inspiring evening at Perth Toastmasters!

Visitors from Dundee TM brought great energy to our latest meeting!
Julia gave a heartfelt and humorous speech on being a protégé — sharing how her granddaughter is now mentoring her on how to “do life.” There were plenty of awes and ahs around the room as she reminded us that wisdom doesn’t always flow in the direction you expect.
Ruth kept us all on our toes with some thought-provoking Table Topics. Brenda took home Best Table Topic with a vivid story about visiting Victoria Falls. She described a natural pool where you can a sail (or should that be inch carefully?) right up close to the edge of the waterfall. Exhilarating… or absolutely terrifying? Did it happen or was it a tall tale ? We’ll let you decide!
Another great evening of learning, laughter and stretching ourselves.
Next meeting: 2nd March at 7pm — come along and see what you’re capable of or just enjoy listening
