Forfar 2-4 Scone Thistle Reds

The games keep coming for Scone and after a midweek defeat at home to title chasers Fairmuir we travelled up to Angus to face Forfar for the penultimate game of the season.

The game was played at Forfar West End juniors and the pitch was in excellent condition. The opening exchanges saw Forfar have slightly more of the ball but in the main it was a scrappy start. The deadlock would be broken in the 25th minute when we won a free kick just outside the box, clever work from Harry and Owen saw Harry fake the shot resulting in the Forfar wall jumping and Owen quickly stepped up to curve the ball round the wall and into the far corner, 0-1 Scone.

Forfar would get back on level terms on 34 minutes when we failed to clear a ball into the box and when Forfar got the ball back into the box the attackers looping header evaded everyone and dropped into the top corner, 1-1.

On the stroke of half time taz made a surging run from right back showing incredible footwork and when he made his way into the box he was chopped down by the Forfar defender for a stonewall penalty, up stepped Harry and from the spot gave the keeper no chance planting it into the bottom corner, 1-2 Scone.

Into the second half and we knew the next goal in this game would be crucial, ten minutes after the restart and the hosts would draw level when we failed to deal with a deep free kick into our box when the striker got to the ball fastest and headed into an empty net, a really poor goal to concede, 2-2.

The boys had to now really dig deep to get something from this game and with the baking conditions sapping energy from both sides we showed great character to regain the lead and when John collected the ball wide right he passed to Ciaran who squared to Harry at the edge of the box and he sent an excellent composed finish low into the bottom right corner of the net giving the keeper no chance, 2-3 Scone.

In the 66th minute we extended our lead further and what a goal it was, a long ball was played forward to Ethan who controlled well and played a great ball between the Forfar right back and centre back to Owen who ran onto the ball and sent a brilliant effort across the keeper who got a touch onto the shot but the power of the shot meant it smashed off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net, 2-4 Scone.

Forfar threw several long balls into the box and when one was only cleared to the edge of the box their striker sent a terrific shot towards the top corner but Todd produced a terrific save to beat the ball away.

In the dying seconds of the game another Forfar free kick was delivered into the box and when we cleared Ethan ran clean through from the half way line and frustratingly the referee blew for full time before Ethan could run through on goal.

A battling performance today in roasting conditions the boys dug in to get the victory meaning we have secured a fourth placed finish in the 1st Division. With one game left, which has still to be scheduled against title challengers Ferry Athletic it’s been a good season for the boys with a number of changes to the squad this year.

Todays man of the match went to Taz, the wee man put in a tremendous shift at right back putting in some vital challenges and making some excellent energetic runs starting a number of attacks, well done taz!

Scone Thistle Reds 5-1 Montrose

Today we welcomed Montrose to Farquharson Park for the penultimate home league fixture for season 2025/26. The boys are on a decent run of form at the moment having won the last 4 games in a row.

We started on the front foot and we opened the scoring after just 5 minutes when a cross from Jamie wide left found Owen wide right who collected the ball turned his marker and sent a great effort into the top corner, 1-0 Scone.

On 23 minutes we doubled our lead when Stevie won back possession in the midfield producing a terrific through ball for John to show his blistering pace racing past the visiting defence and finishing really well low into the bottom corner of the goal, 2-0 Scone.

Into the second half and after a scrappy spell we added the crucial third goal on 53 minutes when Owen produced a defence splitting through ball for John who showed great composure to produce a brilliant first time finish taking the keeper by surprise and finding the bottom corner of the net, 3-0 Scone.

Little more than a minute later we grabbed another when Owen’s pass found Ciaran inside the Montrose box who produced an excellent lobbed effort that sailed over the keeper and into the top corner, 4-0 Scone.

With ten minutes left on the clock we added a fifth with a mirror image of the third goal, Owen won back possession and sent John free with a terrific through ball, John again produced a superb first time finish stroking the ball into the net, 5-0 Scone.

The only disappointment came in the 73rd minute when we had numerous attempts to clear the ball from our box, we didn’t and when the ball struck the arm of one of our defenders the referee pointed to the spot and the Montrose attacker stepped up to stroke home his penalty, 5-1 Scone.

A terrific result today for the boys against a very strong Montrose side. The lads dug in and battled when they had to and when in possession we knocked it about well scoring some really good goals.

Todays man of the match was a tough one, Stevie had a terrific game in the middle of the park, Owen scored a terrific effort and had 3 assists but todays man of the match went to John. The big man has been working hard on his finishing and it showed today scoring a hat trick with 3 really well taken strikes, well done John!

With 3 games left this season we currently sit in third place in the table where we host Fairmuir who are challenging for the league title on Tuesday evening, then next Sunday we travel to face Forfar before our final league fixture against another league title challenger Ferry Athletic with the game still to be cast. The boys are ticking over very well this year and we are delighted with the progress made.

Riverside West End Reds 0-4 Scone Thistle Reds

On Thursday evening we made the trip through to Dundee to face riverside reds for the third time this season, the hosts having got the better of us in the 2 previous occasions the boys were determined to continue our recent good form and get a positive result.

We started on the front foot and it didn’t take us long to break the deadlock when a wicked inswinging corner from Harry was headed home by John, 0-1 Scone.

The early goal settled us and we knocked the ball about very well creating several chances and it wouldn’t be long before we added a second, again from a corner kick, this time Logan scoring directly from the corner with a terrific left footed inswinging effort, 0-2 Scone.

Moments later and we grabbed a third and yes you guessed it, came from a corner kick, another on point inswinger from Logan was tapped home the back post by Josh, 0-3 Scone.

Having been in this position at half time against this opponent previously this season and going on to lose the game we knew the next goal in this one would be crucial. To be honest we were slow to start the second half and Riverside passed up a couple of good opportunities but midway through the half we did grab the vital 4th goal and it was worth the wait, a ball played up to the strikers saw Ethan take a clever instinctive touch to lay the ball into Owen’s path and he unleashed an unstoppable effort from fully 20 yards into the top right hand corner of the net giving the keeper no chance, 0-4 Scone.

Another strong performance from the boys who in stages are knocking the ball about very well and playing some excellent football. We now look ahead to the weekends fixtures where we host Montrose at Farquharson Park.

Tonight’s man of the match went to Harry who put in a great shift in the middle of the park, he was everywhere and when he was on the ball showed his composure with a great passing range, well done Harry.

Riverside West End Blues 0-8 Scone Thistle Reds

Today we made the trip through to Dundee to face Riverside Blues. The boys were hoping to continue where they left off from the positive second half showing against Carnoustie in midweek but in truth we were fortunate not to find ourselves 1 down in the opening exchanges after a sloppy start saw riverside pass up a couple of really good opportunities.

Riverside would regret missing those early chances as soon after we opened the scoring when a defence splitting ball from Jamie saw Ethan race onto the pass and his effort at goal took a wicked spin off the defender and into the net, 0-1 Scone.

We would soon double our advantage when a shot from Bradley from outside of the box was collected by Harry and from just inside the area he gave the keeper no chance firing high into the net, 0-2 Scone.

We were now starting to knock the ball about well and further extended our lead when a clever ball from
John sent Taz away down the right and he cut inside and fired across the keeper with a tidy finish finding the far corner, 0-3 Scone.

Into the second half and now with the wind at our backs we got the ball down and played from the back. We made it 4 when a lobbed pass from the midfield from Harry got Taz in behind the Riverside defence and he showed good composure to finish well, 0-4 Scone.

We were having a lot of joy with the defence splitting passes and when Connor collected the ball midway into the Riverside half he put the ball in between 2 defenders for John to sprint by them and finish really well, 0-5 Scone.

We added a 6th when battling play from Stevie inside the riverside half saw him win back possession then playing the ball to John wide right of the riverside box where John sent an unstoppable effort that flew into the far top corner, a terrific strike, 0-6 Scone.

When Taz was fouled about 20 yards from goal up stepped Connor and his free kick took a nick off the defender and flew into the net wrong footing the keeper, 0-7 Scone.

We completed the scoring making it 8 when a really good move down the left hand side saw John hit the bye line and cut back to strike partner Ethan whose clever first time finish gave the keeper no chance and flew into the net, 0-8 Scone.

What turned out to be a comfortable victory could have been so very different had Riverside taken their chances early doors. Credit to the scone lads though once they got going some of their passing moves were excellent to watch, well done boys!

Today’s man of the match went to Jamie. The left back started so many attacks today with his clever footwork and passing, Jamie showed great composure on the ball throughout, well done Jamie!
