This weekend sees the closure of the wonderful book shop The Bookcase Lowdham.

Almost three decades to the day that Jane Streeter first opened up the shop she is closing the shop's doors this Saturday (5 September) to enjoy a well-earned retirement.

As well as running the book shop Jane also set up Lowdham Book Festival (alongside Ross Bradshaw of Five Leaves Bookshop) an annual event that began in 2000 and has attracted big-name authors including Michael Morpurgo, Alan Sillitoe (who she is pictured with in photo 2), Ben Fogle, Kate Adie, Robert Lindsay and Stuart Maconie.

Jane also runs the website www.nottinghambooks.co.uk and is looking for people interested in exploring the opportunity to take over the website or to purchase specific genres within the local books range.

Wishing Jane a very happy retirement from us all at LeftLion. X

With more than 400 rides and attractions and thrills aplenty for all ages, Goose Fair has been staged annually in Nottingham since at least 1284.

This year's Goose Fair takes place once again over 8 days from Fri 25 Sept to Sun 4 October.

What rides and stalls are you particularly looking forward to at this year's Goose Fair?
