My Life In A Chair
Just a young black man in a wheelchair with a story to tell. These are my thoughts, my passions, my life. This page is a way to better interact with readers.
Feel free to ask me ANYTHING. I'll also be posting updates and announcements here. As for the blog itself, it is first and foremost about helping people be better versions of themselves. And the best way I know to do that is by sharing my experiences and the lessons they've taught me. That's what you'll predominantly find on here. But occasionally I'll post something I just find interesting, important or worth sharing... and hopefully you'll like it. ;)

Earlier this week I went to see .cavemen live and it was bloody awesome. I've not been back home since 2010 and the music scene has really blown up in those years. So getting to see any Nigerian act live would have filled me with some nostalgia. But these dudes? It was a brilliant experience on so many levels. High Life truly is back. To top it off, I was with family. It was a good night.

My rule for sharing a lot of my experiences publicly has always been "Share the problem and a solution". I've always been cautious not to just spread negativity, so I've stayed away from discussing issues I don't yet have answers for. But that defeats the purpose of bringing awareness to My Life in a Chair because answers or not, it's all still part of the process. So in the coming months, I'll be keeping you posted on an issue I'm currently working through. If I can pull it off, I plan to shed more light on other issues regardless of solutions going forward. The hope is to give a more realistic view on what some of these issues are and to remind others like myself that "you are not alone in this".
Wish me luck.

I'm trying out something new with how I share stories from My Life In A Chair. Here's a short clip from my video explaining why and how.

It is Mental Health Awareness Week, so I thought I'd share a bit about my journey and my mental health.
My Journey With Mental Health So Far One day, on a quiet afternoon, I was sat in the living room with the TV off. I had been watching something on Netflix earlier, but wasn’t really in the mood for whatever show it was, so I was…

The 2nd part of my recent blog post is up: "Why I LOVE Myself". I rediscovered a love for myself for the 2nd time and don't think I'll need a 3rd. It took a lot of work, but I'm certain anyone can do it. Have a read and see what I mean. Link is either in my bio or on this post.
Why I LOVE Myself (pt2) “But my most significant step forward yet would come from something I once thought would cause me more pain than joy. Thankfully, I was wrong…”

I love myself! Sounds vain I know, but why? Why shouldn't we all love ourselves? We're so preoccupied with finding love, being loved, having loved ones. But we don't need to look far for a person to love and be loved by: ourselves. The rest will follow. I found this out the hard way... twice! So of course I wrote about it on my blog. Slide over and have a read.
Why I LoveD Myself (pt1) “… I now know that what had actually happened was just that I started living my life for myself and not for the imaginary standards I thought I was being judged by.”

This Friday will mark 15 years since the day my life changed forever. It's amazing how much you forget as time flies by. Looking back and reflecting becomes more important each day. So I looked, this is what I learned.

This Friday will mark 15 years since the day my life changed forever. It’s been a while since I wrote specifically for the anniversary of the accident, and this year would have been no different. However, I was filling out a form a couple of weeks ago and had to specify what major surgeries I’ve had in the past. So, I decided to look up the exact name of the procedure I had straight after the injury instead of just writing down “spinal surgery” like I usually would....

Yesterday, a friend asked how I go about trying to live a normal life with very little space to myself. They were referring to the fact that I’ve now lived in care for 15 years. By that, I mean I have required physical assistance from another person to carry out one or more daily tasks essential to my life (in my case, pretty much every aspect of my life)....
Living With Carers: Making It Work I've lived in 24/7 care for 15 years now. It has been a lot just to and is definitely still a work in progress, but I make it work. Here's how.
