It's and we're highlighting one of Nottingham's most famous artists - Dame Laura Knight! 🎨

'Elsie on Hassan' was painted by Knight between 1929 and 1930. Knight had a life-long interest in travelling communities and performers, and featured many people from these communities in her work.

🎪 She visited Carmo's Circus in 1929, capturing real characters behind the scenes. She learned to paint fast and often in chaotic circumstances - while being made, this painting was investigated by and elephant and knocked over by an acrobat!
