I am very excited and looking forward to providing the Punjabi Bhangra Arts and Cultural workshop for the Saanjha Womenโ€™s Group in Walsall.

I shall be taking them on a musical dance journey from Walsall, England all the way to Punjab, India and around the world ๐ŸŒ

This project is supported by CBC Creative Black Country as part of Arts Council Englands, Creative People and Places National Portfolio Programme.

Thank you very much to:

Whenever I get the unique opportunity of working with South Asian Punjabi Women, Aunties, Bibiya, Dhadiya, it reminds me of my family community, my Mum, Dad and Grandparents from Punjab, North India.

When I used to live in Wolverhampton (The Black Country) back in the 80s. Family weekend gatherings, watching Indian movies on the VHS tapes, the Indian Punjabi weddings amongst other events and celebrations ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

The Saanjha Womenโ€™s Group is a vibrant, South Asian community and wellbeing organization in Walsall, West Midlands. It provides a safe, welcoming space for local women to socialize, exercise, and overcome social isolation.

Key Activities & SupportHealth & Wellbeing:

The group partners with local councils to host healthy living events, exercise sessions, and specific initiatives like ladies-only water safety programs.

Social Connections: Created to help women who may feel lonely, socially isolated, or afraid to leave their homes, the group meets regularly to build a supportive, empowering sisterhood.

The group regularly takes part in enabling women from the British South Asian community to engage in a range of community activities.

Once Upon a Time a young man had travelled to the Town of St Helens. It was rather dark and he appeared to have been lost. He found a beautiful building with a sign that read St Helens Church.

There was no one about so he decided to open the rustic iron bolt by turning it. It made clanking sounds and soon he was able to walk through. There was no one about. He saw a bright light appearing from the edges of a door. On walking through this room he gazed upon an ancient book ๐Ÿ“– The book was ancient and so he decided to open the book and by turning the pages the whole room was filled with a beautiful golden light, there were sparkles everywhere.

The young man was transformed into a Bhangra Dancing Character dressed in a wonderful colourful and traditional costume. He had many features and then all@of a sudden he heard the sound of music coming from the main hall.

Pushing his way through the door he saw hundreds of people celebrating, singing, dancing, sharing food and enjoying each others company.

He had arrived at Wonders of the World Festival.

One way of connecting people and communities is through the Arts. To embrace the wider community to bring about positive change and nurture values and share differences. To come together and shine under the same beautiful sky โ˜บ๏ธ

A wonderful day over at Warley Woods Park in Bearwood for the start of their Artisan Markets. It was a pleasure to entertain families on the green as part of this new initiative.

Using the magical and medieval fountain as the focal point for the interactive storytelling and Punjabi Bhangra Folk Dancing experience ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿช„โœจ๐Ÿฅ
Taking families on a great Bhangra Bounce dancing adventure with Bhangra Bunny and friends.

Keeping the performance creative is what I love and enjoy at best. Taking Bhangra and the Arts to outdoor spaces and really embracing park spaces, green spaces, dancing amongst the beautiful natural environment and linking the ancient dance to woodlands ๐Ÿชต ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ“š

It was also wonderful to invite my good friend Ajay Nagi to accompany me with his amazing Dhol Drumming skills. Weโ€™ve known each other for many years ๐Ÿฅ

Iโ€™d like to thank everyone at Warley Woods Park Trust and my friends at Black Country Touring BCT for organising the event and family fun entertainment.
