🚨 Important Update: New UK Citizenship Rules Could Affect Your Application 🇬🇧

The Home Office has introduced a major change to the naturalisation process that could impact many future citizenship applicants.

🗓 From 10 February 2025, anyone who previously entered the UK unlawfully will normally be refused British citizenship — regardless of:
• When they entered the country
• How they arrived (e.g. small boat, lorry, car, plane)
• Why they used an irregular route (e.g. seeking asylum, fleeing persecution)

This includes individuals who:
• Entered the UK by concealment, false documents, or deception
• Have since lived lawfully in the UK for many years
• Have fully integrated into British society
• Meet all other requirements for citizenship

⚖️ What’s changed?
Previously, the Home Office would often use discretion for people who had entered unlawfully over 10 years ago. That discretion has now been removed.

This policy shift is especially worrying for those who arrived in the UK as asylum seekers or refugees through irregular routes. Even if you now have settled status or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), you may still be permanently blocked from becoming a British citizen.
