Range anxiety. A recent issue or an age-old concern?

It's a phrase that gets thrown around a lot in the world of electric vehicles, but is it really a modern problem?

We tend to think of it as something that came along with the rise of EVs, a twenty-first century worry born from charging infrastructure maps and battery percentages.
But cast your mind back a little further, and you might find the feeling is more familiar than you'd expect.

Our very own Renee Foster certainly does. Growing up in the 1950s, she witnessed first-hand what range anxiety really looked like, long before anyone had invented the term.

In this article, she takes us back to 1958 and her family's road trip that carried them all the way to Scotland on nothing but a full tank, a prayer, and a very watchful eye on the fuel gauge.

Men's Health Week

Men's mental health is a quiet crisis, and it's been quiet for too long.

Around 1 in 8 men in England are living with depression, anxiety, or stress right now. But only around a third of NHS talking therapy referrals are for men. The help is there. Men just aren't reaching it.

The cost of that gap is brutal.

Three out of four su***des in the UK are men. For men under 50, su***de is the single biggest killer.

And the thing keeping so many of them quiet? The old line that "real men" cope on their own. That asking for help is weakness. It isn't. It never was.

So this week, and every week after, do something small.

Ask the men in your life how they're actually doing, then ask again when they say "fine."

Listen properly. Don't fix, don't flinch, don't change the subject.

Point them somewhere, a GP, a charity, a mate who's been there.

And if you're the man being asked: try telling the truth. It's the bravest thing most of us ever do.
