We put a lot of focus on keeping our pups cool in this heat, but our feline friends are often overlooked! ๐
Our little Minnie (Ragdoll) is a prime example of the importance of keeping your cats cool. A few years ago during a similar heatwave, Minnie suffered a spontaneous interssusception (meaning a section of her intestine folded in on itself and went necrotic). She had major abdominal surgery, lost 10-15cm of her intestines, and then spent 2 weeks in ICU recovering with pancreatitis and aspiration pneumonia (which also nearly killed her). Shes very lucky to be alive!
Safe to say i have implemented a lot of cooling measures for the girls to prevent a repeat of that awful situation.
I strongly advise everyone to keep their cats inside and monitor them very closely during this heatwave โค๏ธ
Our girls particularly love a bit of frozen tuna water!

SIGHTHOUND SOCIAL WALK! ๐
As you are all aware, sighthounds hold a special place in our hearts here at More Paws! Our little Spuddy whippet is turning 7 years old soon and I thought it would be a great opportunity to get together with all his favourite speedy friends ๐งก
All sighthounds/pointy dogs and owners welcome, you don't need to be a More Paws client to join!
(Please note the time/date is subject to change depending on the weather!).
We hope to see you all there!

โ๏ธ๐พ HOT WEATHER WARNING ๐พโ๏ธ
With temperatures set to soar over the coming days, the safety and wellbeing of the dogs in our care is always our top priority.
Please be aware that while we will always aim to walk early where it's safe to do so, on some days temperatures may already be too high by 6am, meaning walks may need to be cancelled altogether. I will drop everyone a message the day before their daycare booking to discuss the options for the day.
During periods of extreme heat we may instead provide: ๐ฆ Garden play and enrichment โ๏ธ Time relaxing in our air-conditioned dog room to keep cool and comfortable ๐ง Plenty of fresh water and rest breaks ๐ณ Time in shaded areas ๐งฉ Mental stimulation and indoor activities.
Please also remember:
๐พ Test the pavement with the back of your hand. ๐ Never leave dogs in a parked car. ๐ฅฃ Ensure your dog has access to plenty of fresh water. ๐ก๏ธ Watch for signs of heatstroke.
Thank you for your understanding as we put your dogs' health and safety first. Keeping them cool, comfortable and happy will always be our priority. โค๏ธ๐ถ
